The following contains spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1060, "Luffy's Dream," by Eiichiro Oda, Stephen Paul and Vanessa Satone, available in English from Viz Media.

One Piece Chapter 1060, "Luffy's Dream," ended with the Straw Hat Pirates saving Jewelry Bonney from drowning. This seems to suggest that she'll be integral to the plot of their next destination. If so, then it could be her chance to become a fan-favorite character.

Something worth keeping in mind is that she's a member of the Worst Generation. These 12 pirates have become major players in the story since before the Straw Hats entered the New World. Some of the bigger members of this group are even top contenders to find the One Piece. Bonney's potential as a character should be on par with at least one of her peers. To figure out how popular she could become, it's important to consider how everyone else has fared in this department.

Worst Generation Versus Kaido

At the top of the totem pole are Luffy and Zoro. As members of the main cast, they have the greatest amount of characterization in the story by far; the rest of the Worst Generation can hardly scratch them in this regard. Even if Bonney were to somehow become a Straw Hat herself, it's unlikely that she'd ever come close to their level of popularity.

As far as a supporting cast goes, Trafalgar Law makes for a much better gold standard for the Worst Generation. Next to Luffy and Zoro, he's had the most time for fans to get to know and love him; his personality, backstory, and character arc have all been thoroughly explored since the Straw Hats entered the New World. At the height of his popularity, he was regularly featured in merchandise along with the likes of Luffy, Chopper, and even Ace. In an ideal world, the Worst Generation would all reach this level of recognition by the end of the series.

Just below Law are a couple more Worst Generation Members who could be contenders for his level of popularity. Eustass Kid has been presented as someone who can stand on equal footing with the likes of Law and Luffy; he got some characterization in Wano, but his real moment to shine is probably yet to come. Blackbeard has long been set up as one of Luffy's ultimate enemies; by the end of the series, he's likely to completely usurp both Kid and Law by his notoriety. Killer could also become more popular through his connection to Kid, not that he'd necessarily be at his captain's level. The standards currently set for these characters are high, but they can all go further.

Worst Generation One Piece

A mid-level character among the Worst Generation would be someone like Capone Bege. He may have had a big role to play in the Whole Cake Island Arc, but he didn't leave much of an impression beyond this. It's also difficult to imagine him figuring back into the story in a meaningful way; he certainly doesn't seem like he'd be a rival for Luffy in the search for One Piece like Kid, Law, or Blackbeard are. He might be liked by some readers, but he's not likely to become a fan favorite.

Below Bege are the likes of Scratchmen Apoo, Basil Hawkins, and X Drake. It's certainly difficult to root for traitors like these three, especially Apoo and Hawkins. Drake, however, is still respectable enough in his morals and convictions to potentially earn some respect; additionally, he's a member of the mysterious SWORD, so he should eventually get more chances to prove himself. For now, however, these characters haven't done enough good things in the story to warrant a following.

As for Bonney herself, she's been keeping a pretty low profile. Most of what she's been shown doing in the series thus far has involved reacting to what other members of the Worst Generation have done. This upcoming arc is probably meant to be where she truly shows what she's made of.

Assuming Bonney has a large role to play in the next arc, she could end up somewhere between Kid and Bege in terms of popularity; she might even rank higher than Killer. It all depends on what her role in the arc will be and how big of an influence she'll have on the story going forward. She could either be an icon for the series or just another character that the Straw Hats happened to befriend along their voyages. Alternatively, Mad Monk Urouge could show up as a dark horse and completely steal the show.
