Originally called Cutty Flam, Franky is the shipwright for the Straw Hat Pirates in the One Piece universe. As a half cyborg, Franky brings much-needed utility to an otherwise technologically illiterate crew. He's impressive enough to have even invented the Thousand Sunny.

Ever since his introduction at Water Seven, Franky has been a fantastic asset to his newfound friends and team. Franky is the Straw Hat Pirates' shipwright and a formidable cyborg with impressive skills. Despite his strengths, he has some significant weaknesses.

10 Weakness: Franky Is Debilitated By Cola Requirements

As a cyborg, Franky runs on both food and cola in order to sustain himself. His need for cola is especially important because cola is responsible for fueling most of his powers, such as his strong right, weapons left, and hand cannons.

As a result, he lacks the endurance of characters like Luffy or Zoro, who are able to fight for hours or even days at a time. Worse yet, attempting to repower Franky with anything other than cola will radically change his personality and effectively take him out of the battle.

9 Strength: Franky Is Extremely Versatile In Combat

Franky is perhaps the most versatile Straw Hat in combat, able to dominate from both close and long-distance quarters. He was strong enough to wrestle with Doflamingo's lieutenant, Senor Pink, and possessed a hand cannon so potent that it could blow cleanly through Caesar Clown's reinforced lab doors. Franky has even shown an ability to breathe fire.

Franky's ammunition also had a more devastating impact against Oars Jr. than almost any other member of the crew, barring Zoro and shadow-enhanced Luffy. The cyborg's dependability in any situation makes it extremely difficult to defeat him with cheap tricks.

8 Weakness: Franky Is Sometimes Overly Emotional

Franky is sometimes emotional to a fault. When encountering the Tontattas and hearing about their plight, he was immediately willing to help them in spite of the fact that they nearly executed Usopp and Robin. He only refrained from helping on account of a lie.

Although Franky's disposition usually isn't too grave of a problem, it does become a huge problem whenever he tries to present himself as the tough and fearless leader of the boat-dismantling Franky Family. The changes he's made as a member of Luffy's crew are profound.

7 Strength: Franky's Robotic Body Makes Him Incredibly Durable

Franky performed surgery on himself, using whatever metals he had access to in order to make himself nearly unbreakable. As a result, he is able to endure significantly more abuse than other member of the Straw Hat crew.

This was seen at the climax of Enies Lobby, where he stood in front of Spandam's firing squad in order to save Robin's life. Additionally, he endured finger pistols from several C9 agents without so much as flinching, even though the technique was powerful enough to subdue ordinary people like Iceburg.

6 Weakness: Franky's Durability Does Not Extend To His Back

Since Franky performed all of his augmentations himself, he could not make his back more durable, even with the benefit of Doctor Vegapunk's notes. As a result, Franky's back is just as weak as an ordinary person's.

This was a fact that Senor Pink uncovered and exploited during the final battle for Dressrosa. However, he still failed to defeat the cyborg even after suplexing him from hundreds of feet in the air. The fact that Franky's back withstood the impact suggests that even Franky's human half has some superhuman durability, much like Sanji or Zoro.

5 Strength: Franky Is Free-Spirited & Optimistic

Franky's optimism is almost unparalleled among the Straw Hat pirates. He doesn't balk in serious situations and expresses gratitude for the good things that have happened to him, usually by striking an iconic pose and bellowing, "SUPER!"

Curiously, Franky's sunny disposition was objectively proven during the battle against Perona. Since her negative hollows preyed upon good emotions, he was one of the worst to be affected by them. Nonetheless, the ghastly encounter on Thriller Bark did little to staunch Franky's insatiable appetite for enjoying life on the sea with his friends.

4 Weakness: Franky Can Sometimes Be Immature

Although Franky is usually among the crew's more mature characters, he can be even more childish than Luffy in some instances. He installed lights in his nipples in order to disorient opponents in the most immature ways possible.

Additionally, he also effectively turned himself into a human toy after the timeskip. Anyone who pressed his nose could change his hairstyle, ranging from things as sensible as mohawks to as absurd as hair-shaped cannons. His antics can sometimes grate on Zoro and Nami.

3 Strength: Franky Is Tenacious & Loyal

Franky is one of the Straw Hat crew's most doggedly loyal members. This was initially proven during the Thriller Bark incident, where he soaked more abuse from Oars than anyone else.

It was also seen in Dressrosa, where he was responsible for diverting the attention of both the Donquixote Family and the marines simultaneously. He used his natural durability to the best of his advantage, outlasting adversaries like Senor Pink and Dellinger while Usopp and Robin targeted Sugar's slave operation. In the end, Doflamingo's empire could not have fallen without Franky's help.

2 Weakness: Franky Can Be Too Reckless For His Own Good

There are certain instances where Franky's confidence is a serious problem. After Tom gave himself up to prevent his student from being framed, he chased down Spandam's sea train and stood directly in its path.

Realistically, he should have been reduced to a gory paste. While he miraculously survived being steamrolled, his body was in such shambles that he had no choice but to become a cyborg in order to survive. Ironically, his transformation would help him avenge his mentor many years later during the battle for Enies Lobby.

1 Strength: Franky Is One Of The Best Shipwrights In The World

Unsurprisingly, Franky's best quality is exactly what Luffy recruited him to do: being a shipwright. With Iceburg's help, Franky built the Thousand Sunny overnight and helped Luffy escape from his determined grandfather, Garp.

Ever since, the Sunny has proven to be a vessel worthy of traversing the New World. Franky has also proven to be a magnificent builder in other endeavors, as seen in Thriller Bark. He created stairs hundreds of feet tall in a matter of seconds in order to help his crew traverse Moria's ship more safely.
