In little more than a week since its premiere, One Piece Film: Red has already surpassed most movies in the iconic franchise in terms of box office earnings.

According to a post on the official Twitter for the movie, Film Red has so far earned over five billion yen (roughly 37.47 million USD). It currently stands as the fourth highest-grossing One Piece film and is likely to become the top earner in the near future. For context, 2012's One Piece Film: Z earned a total of 6.87 billion yen (approximately 51.48 million USD) over the course of its entire theatrical run in Japan and 2019's One Piece: Stampede and 2016's One Piece Film: Gold earned 5.55 billion yen (41.59 million USD) and 5.18 billion yen (38.81 million USD) respectively.

The fifteenth One Piece film, Film Red sees the Straw Hat Pirates journey to the Island of Music and meet up with Luffy's childhood friend, Uta, who is also the estranged daughter of none other than Red-Haired Shanks. A beautiful songstress, Uta desires to make the world a better place by combating pain and suffering through the power of music. The film is directed by Gorō Taniguchi, who has previously worked on anime classics like Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and Space Dandy, and written by Tsutomu Kuroiwa, who also penned the screenplays for One Piece Film: Gold and One Piece: Heart of Gold.

One Piece is a cornerstone of pop culture, being one of the longest anime/manga franchises of all time. It began in 1997 with the publication of the first chapter of Eiichiro Oda's story in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump. Since then, over 1,000 individual chapters have been released, and with over 516 million copies sold around the world, it is the best-selling manga of all time.

One Piece details the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a young pirate with a dream to become the next Pirate King, and his colorful crew as they sail across the Grand Line, searching for the titular hidden treasure. It was recently revealed that the manga is entering its final story arc, and many fans have begun to speculate about who Luffy's final opponent will be with theories ranging from Shanks to characters like Blackbeard, Admiral Akainu and Buggy the Clown.

Crunchyroll has confirmed it will screen One Piece Film: Red in theaters in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand this fall.
