One Piece Film: Red Focuses on Red-Haired Shank’s Daughter

The plot of One Piece Film: Red revolves around a world-famous diva, Uta, whose singing ability is "otherworldly." While she kept her identity concealed for most of her career, she decided to reveal herself to the world during a live concert. While Luffy and the other Straw Hat Pirates are initially only interested in seeing this concert, they become more involved when they discover that Uta is actually the daughter of Red-Haired Shanks and Luffy's childhood friend. A recent trailer revealed that Red-Haired Shanks abandoned Uta as a child and highlights the devastating impact that this had on her. In a past interview, Shinji Shimizu, the film's General Producer, explained that Uta goes through seven distinct emotional journeys and uses her songs to convey her complex emotions to the audience.

The film, like the anime series, was produced by Toei Animation. Goro Taniguchi (Code Geass) directed the film, whereas the screenplay was written by Tsutomu Kuroiwa (One Piece Film: Gold). One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda served as the Executive Producer. Recently, Crunchyroll announced the Western theatrical release dates for One Piece Film: Red. The film will hit theaters in Australia and New Zealand on Nov. 3, a day before it hits theaters in the United States and Canada on Nov. 4.
