The One Piece manga was first published in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1997. The story follows the dangerous but often wacky adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a young pirate captain with a body made of rubber and a dream to become the next King of the Pirates, as he and his colorful crew, which includes a talking reindeer and a directionally-challenged swordsman, sail across the Grand Line in search of the titular treasure. Oda's story has greatly resonated with people worldwide; with over 516 million copies sold globally, One Piece is the best-selling manga of all time.
