Creating interesting and imaginative fan theories is a popular practice within the One Piece fandom, and a new one has an idea about the name of Monkey D. Luffy's mom.Put forth by Twitter user Chancil, the theory builds off the similar names of the mothers of Roronoa Zoro and Vinsmoke Sanji -- Tera and Sora, respectively -- and posits that "Luffy's Mom name should have -Ra ending as well." Chancil offered "Aurora" as a possibility, arguing that "Aurora is the goddess of the DAWN, while Luffy is the one who will bring The Dawn of the World." Another Twitter user who seemingly agrees with the idea suggested "Mira" as a potential option, pointing out that the name references the ocean in terms of its meaning.RELATED: One Piece: Ask D Question Explained

One Piece Fan Theories About Luffy's Mother

Speculations surrounding a possible name aren't the only theories about the identity of Luffy's mother. One prominent and wild theory asserts that manga readers and anime viewers have already met him; this long-standing and well-debated theory states that none other than mafia kingpin and former Warlord of the Sea Crocodile birthed One Piece's lovable and adventure-obsessed protagonist. It uses everything from additional artwork by mangaka Eiichiro Oda to the story's timeline to the character's connections to Okama Kingdom leader Emporio Ivankov to support its claims.

Other One Piece fan theories include discussions of former Navy Admiral Kuzan's motivations and goals as the story approaches its epic conclusion and conjecture about potential foreshadowing in the shanty Bink's Sake. Of course, not all fan theories will be proven correct once One Piece finishes its multi-decade run, and Oda has already debunked a few. Most notably, the mangaka alleviated anxiety within the fandom by firmly stating that the titular treasure "is not a 'bond of Straw Hats."
