Devil Fruits are rare treasures that grant people magical powers when eaten. Although not possessed everyone in the One Piece world, there's quite a big number of people who wield their powers, ranging from stretching like rubber to creating quakes.
Interestingly, we've also seen lots of Devil Fruit users die in One Piece as well, and that's exactly what this list is about. While the number of Devil Fruit users to have died wasn't that high before the time-skip, it has risen dramatically since then.
11 Ace
Portgas D. Ace was the son of Gol D. Roger, and also Luffy's sworn brother. He wielded the powerful Logia known as Mera Mera no Mi which allowed him to create, control, and turn into fire itself.
Ace was the first Devil Fruit user in One Piece to die. His death came at the hands of Marine Admiral Akainu towards the end of the Paramount War in One Piece. After Ace's death, Sabo took over his ability in due time.
10 Whitebeard
Renowned across the world as the strongest man, Whitebeard was one of the Yonko and a former rival to Gol D. Roger himself. Upon hearing of his son's capture, Whitebeard waged war on the Navy in order to retrieve his captive son.
However, just like Ace himself, Whitebeard ended up losing his life in this war at the hands of Blackbeard. His Devil Fruit, the Gura Gura no Mi, was then eaten by his murderer, Marshall D. Teach, aka Blackbeard.
9 Smiley
Smiley was a giant blob-like figure that appeared in the Punk Hazard arc of One Piece. Having been created by Caesar Clown, it served a big role in the arc as it used its Devil Fruit powers extensively to attack the Straw Hats.
Smiley was a user of the Sara Sara no Mi, Model: Axolotl. Upon Smiley's death, this Devil Fruit was reincarnated in a nearby apple, giving us the very first look at Devil Fruit reincarnation in the process.
8 Monet
Yet another Devil Fruit user to lose their life during the Punk Hazard arc of One Piece, Monet was a member of the Donquixote Pirates who was assisting Caesar Clown in his research at the island.
Monet was a Logia-type Devil Fruit user and she had eaten the Yuki Yuki no Mi, allowing her to turn into and freely control snow. She died at the hands of Caesar, who mistook her heart for Smoker's and stabbed through it, bringing her life to an early end.
7 Donquixote Rosinante
Donquixote Rosinante was the son of Donquixote Homing, a Celestial Dragon who had come down to live on the surface. After his father's death, he secretly joined the Marines, thanks to Sengoku.
Rosinante ate the Naki Naki no Mi, and this Devil Fruit gave him the power to erase all sound in a given area. Rosinante was killed by his brother, Donquixote Doflamingo, after being finally found out by Vergo. His dying breath was spent helping Trafalgar Law escape.
6 Former Ope Ope no Mi User
Trafalgar Law's Devil Fruit, the Ope Ope no Mi, is quite a powerful one as it grants immortality through its Perennial Youth Surgery. According to Donquixote Doflamingo, this Devil Fruit is called the 'Ultimate Devil Fruit', and he could've conquered the world had it fallen in his hands.
According to what we know, the former user of this Devil Fruit was a doctor who successfully completed the Perennial Youth Surgery, but lost his life in the process.
5 Absalom
Absalom was one of the crew members of the Thriller Bark Pirates, and was a main antagonist during the Thriller Bark arc of One Piece. He was the user of the Suke Suke no Mi, and this fruit granted him the power of invisibility.
Unfortunately for him, it was recently revealed that Absalom ended up dying at the hands of a member of the Blackbeard Pirates. His Devil Fruit, the Suke Suke no Mi, has now been eaten by the Second Titanic Captain of the Blackbeard Pirates, Shiryu of the Rain.
4 Mother Carmel
The benefactor of Charlotte Linlin, Mother Carmel was the former user of the Soru Soru no Mi, which is currently being used by Big Mom herself. She made her introduction in the flashback of Charlotte Linlin during the Whole Cake Island arc of the series. Carmel was a child trafficker posing as a nun who took care of children.
On Linlin's sixth birthday, Carmel was eaten by her in a horrific act which ended up giving Linlin the abilities that Carmel once possessed.
3 Kozuki Toki
Kozuki Toki was one of the members of the Amatsuki Clan of Wano Country who had jumped forward in time from 800 years ago. It is said that she belonged to Wano Country from the Void Century, however, she only stepped foot on Wano for the first time about 25 years ago, as seen in Oden's flashback.
Around 20 years ago, Toki died during Kaido and Orochi's takeover of Wano, and her Devil Fruit, the Toki Toki no Mi, has since been reincarnated somewhere in the world of One Piece.
2 Kurozumi Semimaru
One of the members of the Kurozumi Clan, Semimaru was involved with Orochi and helped him take over Wano Country decades ago in the story. Although not a fighter, he did have a Devil Fruit power, called the Bari Bari no Mi.
Kurozumi Semimaru was seen using this Devil Fruit ability during Oden's attempt to cut down Orochi for destroying Wano and hurting his wife. The powers of this Devil Fruit are currently being wielded by none other than Bartolomeo, which means that Semimaru is dead, without any doubts. How exactly he died isn't known, however, we believe it was likely due to old age.
1 Kurozumi Higurashi
This list comes to a conclusion with the revelation of the most recent Devil Fruit user known to have died in One Piece, also in Oden's flashback. A witch named Kurozumi Higurashi was known to be the user of the Mane Mane no Mi, which allowed her to copy appearance at will.
This Devil Fruit is currently being used by former No. 2 of the Baroque Works, 'Bon Clay' Bentham. The fact that Mr. 2 uses this power now means that it is beyond the shadow of a doubt that she's dead.
