Uta made her debut in One Piece's story in the franchise's latest film, One Piece Film: Red. The movie sees Monkey D. Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat Pirates sail to the Island of Music. There, they encounter the pop star, who is revealed to be a childhood friend of Luffy's and the estranged daughter of Red-Haired Shanks. While Uta desires to combat suffering and pain with her beautiful music, her actual plan greatly resembles the goals of none other than Obito and Madara Uchiha from Naruto.

The One Piece Film Is a Massive Hit

Film Red premiered in Japan in August and in most Western markets in November. With an ever-growing box office that has already surpassed 18 billion yen (approximately $180 million), the title is undoubtedly the most profitable One Piece movie so far. More importantly, Film Red currently stands as Japan's highest-grossing film in 2022 and is one of the country's top ten highest-earning movies of all time, alongside anime classics like Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle and Ponyo.
