The Straw Hat Pirates have become one of the most recognizable and important groups in anime history, with many fans obsessing over each member. But while the Straw Hats are powerful and influential in their own right, they're small in size compared to the average pirate group in One Piece. However, what they lack in official numbers, they more than make up for in honorary allies.

10 Vivi Set The Template For Honorary Straw Hats

In the most recent character popularity poll, VIvi managed to rank 21st despite having departed from the main cast for over 20 years ago. Her role in the Alabasta arc set the precedent for what temporary members of the Straw Hat crew should be.

Since then, many characters in One Piece have tried to emulate Vivi's role in the crew, but none have gotten close to her level of impact. Fans adore Vivi to this day and still hold out hope that she may one day rejoin the Straw Hat Pirates.

9 Marco Protected Luffy During The Paramount War

Luffy makes friends wherever he goes, even in the midst of a dire battle between the Whitebeard Pirates and the Marines. The Paramount War was an epic clash between the world's strongest forces that Luffy managed to stumble into while trying to save his brother.

He quickly became an ally of the Whitebeard forces inadvertently and was protected by Marco the Phoenix on his trek to reach Ace. While the two don't talk much, Marco has continued his mission to save Luffy to this day, arriving just in time to join the efforts in Wano.

Many fans imagined that Jinbe was the final member of the Straw Hat crew. 10 seemed to be the magic number, which was fulfilled when Jinbe made the decision to serve Luffy and become a Straw Hat Pirate. But shortly following that, the character Yamato was introduced and changed everything.

7 Carrot Has Been With The Straw Hats For Years

Carrot was introduced during the Zou Island arc as a member of the Mink Tribe back in 2016. Over half a decade has passed since then and she still travels with the Straw Hats on their journey in Wano. She's been a key part of their strategy and has saved the crew on more than one occasion with her Sulong form.

While not technically a princess, she fulfills the "princess" role set by Vivi back during the Alabasta arc. While no one can match up to Vivi entirely, Carrot has come the closest thus far.

When he met them on Dressrosa island, he became a critical part of their plan in dethroning Doflamingo. Since then, he's been one of the main leaders of the Straw Hat fleet, commanding a massive ship that will come to Luffy's aid whenever he calls.

While Luffy has made a number of allies over the years, his first canonical crewmate was Koby in One Piece's first episode. Koby was a mere lackey for Lady Alvida in episode one, but after a puzzling encounter with Luffy, Koby was inspired to abandon Alvida and pursue his dreams as a Marine.

Koby would go on to travel with Luffy for a short while before splintering off to follow his aspirations. Since then, Koby has become a well-respected and powerful Marine.

4 Boa Hancock Would Do Anything For Luffy

Despite Sanji's desires, romance has never been a huge aspect of One Piece. Luffy has always been much more interested in food and adventure than any sort of love life. But that doesn't stop others from falling in love with him, such as Boa Hancock of the Kuja Pirates.

Boa is a powerful fighter who was once a prominent Warlord. After meeting Luffy, she was quickly charmed into betraying her role and assisting him in his efforts during the Paramount War. Her loyalty to Luffy earns her a deserved sport as an honorary Straw Hat.

3 Trafalgar Law Has Reluctantly Been Pulled Into The Crew

While many characters in One Piece dream of becoming a Straw Hat and fighting alongside Luffy, Trafalgar Law has always stood out for being roped in reluctantly.

While Law is happy to rely on Luffy and the Straw Hats in their alliance to take down Kaido, he has never considered himself one of their friends. Despite this, the Straw Hats love Trafalgar and would easily let him into the crew if he showed even an inkling of a desire to do so.

There are a ton of reasons for Luffy to try and save the people of Wano, but the major one didn't come until he arrived at the island and met Otama. Otama inspired the Straw Hat to take the fight with Kaido personally and battle with the intent of bringing food back to the people of Wano.

Almost immediately after One Piece's two-year time skip, the Straw Hat crew made their first trek into the New World. Shortly after beginning that journey, they stumbled across a farting samurai who would go on to become one of the most important and longstanding honorary members of the Straw Hat Crew.

Kin'emon has been with the Straw Hats for hundreds of episodes at this point and has ushered them into a narrative branch that has shaped One Piece forever.
