The following contains spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1057, "The End," by Eiichiro Oda, Stephen Paul and Vanessa Satone, available in English from Viz Media.

Chapter 1056 of One Piece shows the three pirate captains disbanding their alliance and choosing different paths. It also reveals the aftermath of the fight between the Animal Kingdom and Big Mom Pirate Alliance and the Ninja-Samurai-Pirate-Mink Alliance, as well as Momonosuke officially assuming the position of shogun and overseeing the repairs and construction of Wano. However, he soon realizes that the Straw Hat Pirates have left without as much as saying goodbye to him. The only one who still hasn't left is Yamato, who claims to have already made the decision to follow Oden's life.

Chapter 1057 starts with a show in Onigashima, wherein the story of the Azakaya Nine is being told. The story begins with the evening of the Fire Festival, but the panels quickly shift to show Momonosuke, with Kin'emon and Yamato on his back, rushing toward Tokage Port. Yamato also clears that they won't be joining the Straw Hats in their adventure. Yamato further explains that since Oden started his life walking about the country, they shall do the same. Yamato hopes that by doing so, they will learn more about the world and eventually end up sailing the seas.

Angry Momonosuke in One Piece

Yamato confesses about already relaying her decision to Luffy and company, further fanning Momonosuke's wrath. The young shogun claims to have been humiliated by the Straw Hat's decision, prompting a series of flashbacks to take over the next few pages. Momonosuke remembers how Kaido has humiliated him prior to traveling in time, as well as when he first meets Luffy. He also reminisces about their petty squabbles during their journey and how he has toughened up during their fight with Kaido.

Momonosuke accepts that they are not necessarily the best of friends, but even so, he assumes that the long journey they've shared means something to the newly-instated Emperor. Kin'emon, as Momonosuke's vassal, wholeheartedly agrees with his lord, going as far as proclaiming to cut the Rubber Man should he not watch what he says. Yamato, on the other hand, thinks that the two may be overreacting, which the new shogun refutes by reiterating that he is humiliated.

Momonosuke receives Straw Hats' Jolly Roger in One Piece

In Tokage Port, the three pirate crews are already saying their goodbyes to each other. That's when Momonosuke arrives and confronts his friend. He asks the pirate why his crew is leaving without first saying goodbye. Luffy brushes him off by stating that he is already there to send them off. The young shogun then starts bawling, confessing his true feelings. He wishes for the Straw Hats to stay in Wano forever, saying that he doesn't want to bid them goodbye. He continues on to say that it is because of the Straw Hat Pirates that he is able to survive the journey, as well as avenge his parents. He ultimately ends up confessing about being scared for what is to come.

Seeing the crying shogun, Luffy asks Usopp to take out the thing they have prepared, and Usopp is quick to throw it toward Momo. Luffy then says his piece about knowing Momo and how weak, coward and stupid he is. Even so, the Emperor thinks of him as a little brother. He gives him the Straw Hat Pirates' Jolly Roger. Luffy tells Momo to fly the flag in Wano so that if anybody attempts to cause them trouble, they will know that they are also picking a fight with the Straw Hat Pirates.

With that, Momonosuke is finally at peace. Luffy then extends a final invitation to the three. He tells them that should any of them wish to become pirates, they only need to tell him and the crew will come and pick them up. However, there is a caveat. Luffy says that the Straw Hat Pirates do not accept weaklings. Finally, Luffy also asks Yamato to watch over the new shogun, while the rest of the crew wishes Momonosuke good luck. In turn, Momonosuke promises to surpass his father, and Kin'emon proudly professes that he will be there to witness it.

the pirate captains screaming in One Piece

Nami tells the crew to prepare and head off to Hakumai, where the proper port is situated. Brook and Chopper express their relief of not having to go down the rough way and head down the waterfall. However, Kid runs his mouth and mocks them for planning to take a safe and secure route, successfully irking both Law and Luffy. As such, the two captains decide to take the wheel and follow the Kid Pirates down the waterfall. Meanwhile, the storyteller's narration also continues.

He speaks about how Momonosuke and Kin'emon have recruited mighty allies to help their cause. These mighty warriors have defeated both Kaido and Big Mom. He even adds that their death screams split the sky, while the three pirate crews are literally screaming as they fall down to the sea. The storyteller continues on to tell how Orochi meets his demise. According to him, Denjiro cuts down Orochi's head as the fake shogun attempts to attack the princess. And so, the villain's final head burns to a crisp.

Finally, his story reaches its final arc. The warriors have defeated Kaido, and both the dragon and the flying castle plummet to the Earth. At that time, the burning Orochi dares to curse the country, stating that the wrath of the Kurozumi shall curse Wano until its last generation. However, the fair princess stands her ground. She tells him with bravery and valor that the Kurozumi is born to burn -- an act that causes the story's listeners to shout in glee and admiration. That is how the mighty samurai regain their lost glory. At that moment, Momonosuke has also returned. The only thing in his mind is where to put the flag his big brother has left him.
