The following contains spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1050, "Honor," by Eiichiro Oda, Stephen Paul and Vanessa Satone, available in English from Viz Media.

One Piece has officially reached another milestone in Chapter 1050. Two of the Four Emperors, Kaidō and Big Mom, have been defeated in battle. However, not everybody is quite ready to believe this.

There are many who are convinced that the Emperors will be back shortly to wreak further havoc. This isn't just happening with characters in-universe, either. Many readers deny that Luffy and his friends have actually accomplished this nigh-impossible feat. For the sake of argument, here are the facts, what everybody believes, and what the story seems to suggest is the truth.

The narrative boxes would have the audience believe that Luffy is the definitive winner of the fight over Wano. According to them, the winner of the rooftop battle was formerly Kaidō, but the definitive winner has since changed to Straw Hat Luffy. This status-report-like presentation of the facts seems like it's meant to be taken as incontrovertible proof that the fight is over. This is the end of Roof Piece.

It's also important to take into account what exactly happened to the Emperors. Both of them were sent flying into the earth so hard that their bodies ended up in an underground pool of magma. Then, the force of that burrowing caused cracks that reached Wano's seabed and caused a massive underwater volcanic eruption. Emperor or not, that should be enough to take anyone out.

However, fans remain unconvinced that the Emperors will stay down. It's assumed that they will emerge from the magma virtually unscathed. Others believe that they'll come out of it severely crippled. Others aren't sure whether they're alive or dead. Whatever the case, there are clearly those who are convinced that lava isn't enough to kill these Emperors.

In fairness, the idea of Emperors, or any especially powerful One Piece characters, surviving direct exposure to lave isn't entirely implausible. Anyone who has fought Akainu, eater of the Magma-Magma Fruit, and lived to tell the tale can attest to this. The Emperors were shown submerged in the magma, but not necessarily being melted by it. Since this is One Piece, it's reasonable to assume that they would survive this.

As for whether they're coming back to fight some more for Wano, the answer is probably no. Everything about Chapter 1050 points to this being the satisfying victory that the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance has been fighting so hard for. Having the Emperors come back for more fighting would cheapen the positive emotional impact this chapter is going for.

Even if Kaido and Big Mom were to come back now, nobody has the strength left to fight them again. In fact, the remaining Beast Pirates were planning to finish off the remaining rebels. They may have been pushing their luck, but if Yamato hadn't stopped them, they very well might have taken a few more heads. Even if the Alliance had the strength to finish off the Beast Pirates, they likely couldn't handle another fight with the Emperors.

If Kaidō and Big Mom really are still alive, it's likely that they'll be carted out of Wano by their subordinates. It would be like how Moria was escorted out of Thriller Bark by his own crew after his defeat. This way, the Alliance keeps their win, and the Emperors can fight again another day.

However things play out, this is likely the end of the battle for Wano. If the Straw Hat pirates have to deal with the Emperors again, it will probably be saved for a later arc. Until then, they can finally throw that big party Luffy promised they'd have before the raid on Onigashima began.
