One of the most important characters in Eiichiro Oda's One Piece, Blackbeard started as an apprentice on the ship of the legendary Whitebeard and went on to strive for greatness. With time, he overtook Whitebeard's spot as one of the Yonko and set himself up as one of the greatest antagonists in the story.
Although Blackbeard carries immense importance in the story, very little has been revealed about him thus far, which opens up room for tons of theories and speculation that fans have been avidly discussing for years.
10 Blackbeard Is Connected To Rocks D. Xebec
Chapter 957 of One Piece, titled "Ultimate," mentions Rocks D. Xebec, a character from the history books who terrorized the seas even before the age of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. This pirate made Hachinosu Island his home and ruled the seas all alone.
Interestingly, Blackbeard has made that same island his home, and even named his flagship "Saber of Xebec," implying that there might be a connection between the two pirates.
9 Blackbeard Will Eat A Third Devil Fruit
Blackbeard is the only person in One Piece known to have eaten two Devil Fruits. Even the Gorosei, who are said to be all-knowing when it comes to strange events, admit that Blackbeard is the first person in history to do so. So far, he has the strongest Paramecia-type Devil Fruit, along with the strongest Logia-type Devil Fruit. It would be very fitting for him to get his hands on the strongest Zoan-type Devil Fruit and declare himself the strongest of all time.

During the Enies Lobby arc, it was established that one person can only consume one Devil Fruit. It's also been established that Blackbeard has a rather strange body, which is why he can eat two Devil Fruits, unlike everybody else.

7 Blackbeard Will Come To Wano Country
Blackbeard is looking for the strongest Devil Fruits to create a mighty crew and rule the seas. Already having possession of the strongest Paramecia and Logia abilities, it is entirely possible that Blackbeard will come for the strongest Zoan ability, which belongs to none other than the Yonko Kaido.
Just like he did at Marineford, Blackbeard could come towards the end and finish off a defeated Kaido by taking his Devil Fruit power from him.
6 Blackbeard Can Read Poneglyphs By Himself
Not all pirates in One Piece are searching for the treasure of Gol D. Roger, but Blackbeard certainly is. To reach Laugh Tale, one has to be able to decipher the Road Poneglyphs somehow.
Interestingly, Oda revealed to the fans that archaeology is one of Blackbeard's favorite hobbies, which means he could possibly have the power to read the stones by himself and find his way to Laugh Tale.
5 Blackbeard Has A Member Of The Three-Eye Tribe On His Crew
Another known way to read the Poneglyphs is to use the power of the Three-Eye Tribe. Although none of their kind has been introduced in One Piece so far, a half-blooded Three-Eye Tribe member, Pudding, was featured in the Whole Cake Island arc.
Jesus Burgess, Blackbeard's First Division Commander, always wears a mask. Hidden under his mask could be a third eye, which would allow him to help Blackbeard find Laugh Tale.
4 Blackbeard Will Fight Shanks And Kill Him
Shanks is one of the Yonko of the Sea, just like Blackbeard himself. The two have quite a lot of history, as hinted at when Shanks met Whitebeard and later when the two came face-to-face in Marineford.
Blackbeard implied that the two would fight at some point in the future, and given Blackbeard's inevitable set-up as one of the final antagonists in Luffy's journey, him killing Shanks makes a lot of sense.
3 Blackbeard Can Absorb Haki With The Yami Yami no Mi
Haki is an incredible power that can help a person get around the defensive abilities offered by a Devil Fruit. One would assume that with Haki, Blackbeard's Yami Yami no Mi can be countered. However, Blackbeard explicitly stated that his fruit sucks in everything there is in the world, including light.
This implies Haki could very well be sucked in by his powers as well and is further supported by the fact that he fought Ace, Whitebeard, Sengoku, and Garp, all of which were powerful Haki users.
2 Blackbeard Will Surpass Roger's Bounty
Blackbeard is one of the strongest characters in the world of One Piece and he already has one of the highest active bounties ever. Among the Yonko, his bounty stands last at 2,247,600,000 berries.
However, that certainly isn't going to be his final bounty. Given that Blackbeard will be one of the greatest obstacles in Luffy's way, his bounty is likely to shoot up to a sky-high level, especially if he acquires another Devil Fruit. Him surpassing even Roger's numbers is totally possible.

Much about Blackbeard's character remains unknown in the story so far and his goals are largely unknown as well. While the fans do know that he is aiming for the One Piece, there is certainly more to his story.
It is widely believed that Blackbeard has inherited the will of the legendary Rocks D. Xebec, who wanted to become the King of the World. By acquiring the greatest powers, Blackbeard could become someone capable of pulling this off.
