Surprisingly, romance isn't among One Piece's core themes. Despite adventures across the high seas to many different exotic locations, the heroes and villains have little time for courtship. This makes the couples that appear within the series rarer and more thrilling to observe.

Whether having good chemistry or advancing the plot, these pairings significantly enrich both characters and provide fans with a break from the monotony of fighting and running from the World Government. Moreover, it illustrates how powerful love actually is when the characters in question are meant for one another.

10 Scarlett Was Taken From Kyros Too Soon

Scarlett x Kyros

Scarlett was the eldest princess of Dressrosa. After Kyros became the land's most notable warrior, the two quickly fell for one another and had a child named Rebecca. Their romance was particularly sweet given Kyros' vigilance in protecting the family and doing whatever it took to support their household.

Unfortunately, it was cut short when the Donquixote Family invaded the region, murdered Scarlett, and transformed Kyros into a toy. Rebecca was taken as a slave to fight in brutal coliseum matches.

9 Hiyori & Zoro Looked After Each Other

Zoro and Hiyori from One Piece

After Hiyori faked her death to escape the vengeful Orochi, she wandered Wano with minimal protection. Granted, while Kappa Kawamatsu looked after her for as long as he could, she quickly found herself alone once again.

When Killer attacked her, Zoro rushed to her aid, protecting the young woman from certain death. In return, she nursed him back to health and offered him one of Oden's legendary weapons. This proved useful in the battle against Kaido even if it cost Zoro Ryuma's sword in exchange. Regardless, such an upgrade was well worth the sacrifice.

8 Otohime Brought Out Neptune's Humanity

Queen Otohime looking serious in One Piece

Otohime was the queen of Fish-Man Island and Neptune's wife. The two had excellent chemistry and produced four children together. Three were the nation's mightiest defenders, although Princess Shirahoshi was the most valuable of all. Her command over sea kings ensured the island's protection in the event of a disaster.

What made Otohime and Neptune a strong couple was how they balanced one another out. She was a wide-eyed dreamer who dedicated her to life to securing peace with humans. Conversely, Neptune's pragmatism helped to remind his wife about what was possible.

7 Absalom Was Perfect For Lola

Lola confronts absalom

In an ironic way, Absalom and Lola were perfect for one another. He didn't respect a woman's boundaries, while Lola didn't honor his. The result was an amusing game of cat and mouse that made Thriller Bark an entertaining spectacle.

Lola and Absalom have both unsuccessfully solicited other partners. Between that and their monstrous appearances, it made sense for them to be Thriller Bark's most unlikely couple. Unfortunately, they were never able to solidify this romance since Absalom died to Blackbeard's crew and Lola married Gotti of the Firetank Pirates.

However, after being genuinely charmed by his chivalry, Viola decided to betray Doflamingo after years of fearfully serving him. This wouldn't be the last time Sanji seduced a woman into aligning with the Straw Hats, as seen through Pudding in Whole Cake Island.

5 Zoro & Perona Kindled An Unlikely Flame

When Zoro got transported to Mihawk's island, he was surprised to find Perona waiting for him. Despite technically being enemies, they quickly hit things off as an unlikely pair. Perona pretended not to care about Zoro's well-being though couldn't help being smitten with him.

Similarly, Zoro needed Perona's sense of direction to get by, and she helped him to recover from grueling training sessions. His strength and her Devil Fruit would make the perfect match, should they ever decide to escalate their relationship.

4 Baby Five Would Do Anything For Sai

One Piece Baby five and sai

Baby Five was initially a member of the Donquixote Family. During a fight against Sai, she misinterpreted his threats as attempts at courtship, eventually laying down her arms and embracing him.

Predictably confused, Sai didn't know how to respond until she began actively fighting his enemies. Eventually, Sai stopped questioning the bizarre occurrence and agreed to take Baby Five as his partner. Her betrayal was particularly timely, as it saved her from Dressrosa's retribution after the Donquixote Family collapsed and its people were free.

3 Luffy's Relationship With Hancock Produced Useful Results

Hancock blushes over Luffy

Boa Hancock may have been Amazon Lily's ruthless queen, but Luffy managed to bring out her soft side. By ignoring her attempts at seduction and stating his quest to defeat the Celestial Dragons, she immediately fell for him regardless of her previously misandrist behavior.

What made Hancock's relationship with Luffy particularly compelling was how it influenced the story. She used her status as a warlord to infiltrate Impel Down, allowing Luffy to free Jimbei and nearly the entire prison. Without Hancock's aid, Whitebeard never would have received reinforcements during the battle for Marineford.

2 Oden & Toki Sailed The World Together

Oden And Toki

Oden first discovered Toki while sailing with the Whitebeard Pirates. By defeating the human trafficker Karma, he won her attention and convinced her to set sail with his crew. Over time, Toki and Oden developed a relationship that set the standard for Wano's people.

Their children, Momonosuke and Hiyori, proved instrumental in reclaiming the country from the corruption and brutality that festered there. Unfortunately, both suffered an incredibly violent demise, as Kaido executed Oden and Toki was burned to death in her own home. With the last of her strength, she transported the Scabbards to the future so that they would continue her husband's fight.

1 Bege & Chiffon Were A Wholesome Mafia Family

Bege and Chiffon from One Piece

"Big Gang" Bege and Chiffon were a surprisingly wholesome couple. Despite the former's reputation as a notorious cutthroat and the latter's lineage in the Big Mom Pirates, they had a healthy relationship where both parties were seen, heard, and respected.

An outstanding family man, Bege cared deeply for his wife and infant son, Pez. To this extent, he risked life and limb in order to save the Straw Hats and make them happy. Chiffon felt personally indebted to the heroes for protecting Lola at Thriller Bark, so she wanted to repay them through her husband.
