As Luffy and his crew travel across the seas and continue their adventure in the Grand Line, they have come across various characters and have made multiple friends. From princesses and giants to sky people and mermaids, the Straw Hat crew have had no issue befriending anyone they come across. Sometimes even kidnapping them in hopes of convincing them to join their crew.
The Straw Hats have befriended many animals along their journey, and animal companions who have helped the Straw Hats have appeared multiple times throughout the manga and anime.
10 Karoo: The Leader Of The Super-Spot Billed Duck Troops
A super spot-billed duck, Karoo is the loyal companion of Princess Vivi and an honorary member of the Straw Hats. The brave bird first comes across the Straw Hats at Whisky Peak and joins their crew in order to stop the villainous Crocodile.
Karoo is a fun-loving companion, always entangled in Luffy, Chopper, and Usopp's mischief on the Going Merry. Unfortunately, Karoo and Vivi's time with the Straw Hats inevitably came to an end. However, Karoo will forever be an indispensable member of the Straw Hats.
9 Chouchou: The Loyal Pup Of Orange Town
Loyal through and through, Chouchou is an iconic member of the Orange Town villagers. Despite his home being overrun by Buggy and his crew, Chouchou would not cower away from the dangerous pirates. In order to protect what remained of his home Chouchou would attack anybody, even Luffy!
Despite being outmatched, the brave pup even stood up against Mohji and his lion Richie as they destroyed Chouchou's home. Chouchou's courage and loyalty to his home make him one of the top animal companions in One Piece.
8 Gonbe: Chimney's Partner In Crime
A rabbit who thinks he's a cat, Gonbe is one of the odder animal companions in One Piece. As the best friend of Chimney, Gonbe is rarely seen not at her side. Gonbe even mimics Chimney's actions. Always with a broad smile and a "nya nya".
The two rascals get themselves into all kinds of trouble, whether it be sneaking on the Rocketman or discovering a secret passageway despite being told not to leave the train. However, despite the trouble that these two find themselves in, Gonbe and Chimney always have each other's backs.
7 Su: The Sweet Little Cloud Fox
The companion to Conis, — a young girl living in Skypiea — Su is a cloud fox. Covered with fur as white as the clouds, the little fox is usually seen in Conis's arms.
Su is known to be intelligent, able to understand Pagaya, and use gestures to talk with Conis and the Straw Hats. Su also has a love for pumpkin juice and can sleep through just about anything. However, when things inevitably go wrong, Su tries her best to help Conis and the Straw Hats.
6 Laboon: The Loyal And Patient Friend
As a young whale from the West Blue who was separated from his pod, Laboon had found himself attached to the Rumbar Pirates, Brook specifically. Laboon would swim beside their ship, chirping along to the crew playing "Bink's Brew."
Unfortunately, their time together would come to a close, and Laboon would spend 50 years waiting for his friends. Thankfully, the whale would find some new friends in Luffy and his crew. The whale now waiting happily for Luffy at the base of Reverse Moutain to fulfill their promise.
5 Nukky: Lina's Mischievous Best Friend
Introduced during the Spa Island Arc, Nukky is a mischievous Sea Racoon. The small creature is the best friend of Lina and was once the trusted companion of her father. As Lina and her sister find themselves on Spa Island, they come across the Straw Hat crew and befriend them.
The Sea Racoon immediately takes a liking to Luffy and his friends, creating their typical chaos with Nukky's shape-shifting abilities. Nukky is also extremely loyal to Lina, doing everything in his power to protect her from Foxy and Doran.
4 Billy: The Bird With Electrifying Dedication
A giant bird that has the ability to produce electricity, Billy is a powerful ally of the Straw Hats when they find themselves face to face against Shiki. Despite being mistaken as meat by Luffy, Billy has proven himself to be a loyal companion.
He managed to help Nami escape from Shiki's clutches and was willing to risk his own life once more to save her. Although only seen in the tenth film, this electrifying bird has definitely earned the right to be considered a Straw Hat pirate.
3 Salome: The Snake With A Heart Of Gold
Never seen away from her master's side, Salome is the dedicated companion of the Snake Princess. With pink spots and a blue-haired skull perched on her head, Salome at first appears intimidating. The large snake can be seen coiled around Boa Hancock, offering her a perch or aid in attacking enemies.
However, outside of being a snake weapon, Salome is a friendly and fun-loving snake once you get to know her. She even shares the same comedic love of food as Luffy, eating just as ecstatically and messily as him.
2 Camel: The Napping Body Of Admiral Kuzan
Partner to the ex-Marine admiral Kuzan, Camel isn't your usual penguin. Big enough for Kuzan to leisurely sit on his head for travel, Camel is impressive.
Despite his intimidating size, Camel does appear to be quite adorable, with his dark blue and white feathers and the large knapsack he carries around. However, the penguin himself gets his feathers ruffled if anyone calls him cute. With his fondness for naps and an affinity for ice and cold temperatures, Camel is the perfect animal companion for Kuzan.
1 Pierre: The Dedicated Steed
Despite not being the typical steed for a knight, Pierre does cut a regal figure as Gan Fall's loyal steed. With his Devil Fruit powers, Pierre is able to transform into a horse and keep his wings, making him the perfect companion of the Sky Knight.
Pierre's strength is in his ability to gracefully maneuver in the sky, as well as his speed. The bird also shares his partner's chivalrous heart and will do his best to help the people of Skypiea, no matter the cost.
