One Piece is definitely one of the best anime series of all time no doubt. The series' amazing positives make for one of the best viewing experiences of all time. While we're sure you know a lot about the series, what you may not know about One Piece is that its start over in the United States wasn't so amazing due to one very infamous company and their horrible dub of the series.
The company we speak of is 4kids and its dub of One Piece was one mistake that really cost the series a lot of steam when it comes to its western introduction. This dub is unlike your average bad dub and turns up the terrible knob to the max. Let's look at some of the most unintentionally hilarious lines of dialogue with this list.
10 "BUZZ OFF"
The fight between Zoro and Mr.1 is one of the most important battles in all of One Piece lore. Not only did Zoro find his swords limit he must break but he also found the key to breaking said limit. Nothing makes that moment weaker than a horrible line of dialogue getting thrown into the mix.
During this scene, Mr.1 shows off his steel body's power by making his arms into buzzsaws and saying, "Buzzsaws!" in a completely goofy way. The legendary swordsman responds to this by saying, "Hmph! They don't scare me! So why don't you just buzz off!" Yeah because that was the perfect line for such a serious scene.
9 "FUNNY BUNNIES"
During the scene with Luffy, Sanji, and Nami climbing the icy mountains and having their first encounter with the Lapan (giant monster rabbits) there is a bit of dialogue that will have you cringe out of your seat the laugh right back into it.
When the Lapan are first seen by our trio, Luffy's first response to the situation is to yell, "Snow bears!" This leads to Sanji responding to him angrily exclaiming that "They're rabbits!" Luffy then responds with a simple, "Oh yeah, funny bunnies!" The whole scene is capped off with Sanji stating, "Nothing funny about these bunnies!" No words for this dialogue just...Wow.
8 "TENDERLOIN MASH, GUT STOMPER, TENDERLOIN BREAKER" x5
During the battle with Bon Clay Sanji truly got one of his earlier chances to shine as a fighter in the series. During this battle we got an early look at the extent of his combat prowess. This was definitely ruined by the very goofy voice of Sanji and the weird delivery of his lines in the 4kids dub.
It really wasn't necessary to have Sanji repeat his move names after literally every kick was thrown during this fight. "Shoulder shankcrank! Hip hip puree! Tenderloin mash! Gut stomper! Tenderloin Breaker!" x5
7 "I'LL SHOW YOU A FEW MOVES THAT ARE NASTY AND NUTRITIOUS"
Yet another appearance by the Straw Hat cook Sanji on this list. Sorry, but his deep dubbed voice is just too funny. So funny in fact that it instantly makes even the most serious of lines impossible to hold in your laugh at.
Once again this line is uttered during Sanji's fight with Bon Clay. Before the match even starts Sanji uses this line as an opener before he unleashes his fury of kicks and constant yelling of move titles. The comedy comes in with him trying to say this line in the most serious way possible but that voice is just too funny.
6 "WE'VE GOT A NEW CODENAME FOR YOU MISS WEDNESDAY"
When Nefetari Vivi is captured for a short time during the Alabasta arc her capturers had a really "serious" message for her. While she is at their mercy one of these ruthless men says to her, "We've got a new codename for you Miss Wednesday! It's Doomsday! ...For you of course."
From line to line it really constantly feels like the guys over at 4kids were going deeper and deeper into the bottom of whatever barrel they were scrapping for lines. It doesn't help that he had to tell the princess the was about to get the "royal treatment" at the end. They just couldn't help themselves when it came to that one huh?
5 "A DESERT TOILET"
Another Alabasta moment that has to make the list is the dreaded desert toilet line. When you think of an epic battle in the One Piece series Luffy's struggle versus Crocodile has to make your list. The fight was the first time we'd seen Luffy struggle so much. With that battle, Luffy almost met his end and we were all at the edge of our seats for our captain.
So, of course, Luffy had to compare Crocodile's sand typhoon to a desert toilet. And yes, of course Crocodile had to respond by saying, "A desert toilet! I like that Straw Hat! And that makes you desert doo doo."
4 "WITHOUT BIG SMOKEY YOU GUYS ARE TOAST"
While Smoker is away Sanji had to play. In yet another appearance on this list Sanji proves he has the best lines in all of the One Piece 4kids dub. The fact that this character alone has so many appearances on this list is absolutely ridiculous and a testament to how hilarious his voice is in this dub.
With The Marines coming towards him Sanji just can't help but feel badass enough to drop a one-liner, and a great one it is. "Without big Smokey you guys are toast...heh...and I'm the toaster."
3 "HIS NAME IS CROCODILE NOT KITTY CAT"
Why this dub has the coolest characters drop the worst lines we'll never know but that's clearly not a problem for 4kids. This line is another gem from the events that took place in Alabasta and one that feels perfect for this list.
While walking through the desert wastelands of Alabasta the group starts talking about Crocodile and the threat he poses. Usopp scared as ever says that the fearsome ruler will just pick his teeth with them. Zoro responds calmly with the great line, "His name is Crocodile, not kitty cat."
2 "KNEE 'JEOYK' REACTION"
We're starting to believe in the 4kids canon of One Piece every character has been infected with a virus that forces them to respond with some kind of forced joke or bad pun to everything they're faced with. This virus also has altered all their voices to be the worst attempt at fitting each of their character archetypes.
Anyways in this scene Usopp is talking about how he will show no fear and how his "knees won't buckle." Sanji being as serious as ever pokes the back of his knees and makes him fall. Once Usopp hits the ground Sanji tells him that was, "Knee 'jeoyk' reaction you 'jeoyk!" Yes jerk had to be spelled that way because that's how he says it.
1 "ALL BARK NO BITE"
It feels really bad not having the 4kids king, Sanji, to top this list but hear us out, this scene was made to be at number one. Going back to the Zoro and Mr.1 fight, we have the two introducing themselves to each other with a few pre-battle lines. Zoro is saying how Mr.1 is just Crocodile's dog, doing whatever he says and following orders. The first pun shows when Mr.1 responds to the dog name-calling with, "Just like you, all bark no bite." How will the legendary swordsman respond to this disrespectful statement you ask?
"Woof! Woof!"
