One Piece revealed a new logo for the beloved shonen manga and anime franchise.

The new emblem was created to mark the 25th anniversary of the original publication of Eiichiro Oda's long-running and widely celebrated manga. The logo features the silhouettes of a young Monkey D. Luffy and Red-Haired Shanks, and looks back on the moment when the captain gave Luffy his iconic straw hat and set him on the path of becoming not only a legendary pirate, but one of the world's most recognizable and popular fictional characters.

The logo was revealed on a special One Piece livestream held on March 28 that also showcased a number of other big reveals for the series, including a a first look at One Piece Odyssey, a new RPG by Bandai Namco and Pokemon remake studio ILCA, a new poster for the upcoming One Piece Film: Red that finally provides a better look at the new female character that will debut in that movie, and Netflix's reveal of who will be playing the role of Red-Haired Shanks in its live-action adaptation of the series.

Many of these new releases will carry the new logo as One Piece celebrates its 25th birthday throughout the year of 2022. Oda's pirate epic first set sail on the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in July of 1997, and in the two and a half decades since, the series has become the best selling manga series of all time by a substantial margin: with approximately half a billion copies in circulation around the globe, One Piece is about 200 million copies ahead of the next most popular manga titles, Golgo 13 and Dragon Ball, which have worldwide circulations of 300 million and 260 million, respectively. The series doesn't just top the list of the most popular manga ever created either, as its astounding circulation numbers now put it ahead of many other pop-culture icons, including the lifetime sales of the Harry Potter series and every Batman comic combined.

The anniversary arrives just a year after the franchise had one of its biggest years ever in 2021, when it published the 1000th chapter of the manga, its 100th collected volume, and broadcast the 1000th episode of its anime adaptation. The anime recently went on hiatus, however, as it was one of the productions affected by the recent Toei Animation hack, which also delayed the release of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, the newest movie in that franchise.

The One Piece manga is available in English from VIZ Media. The full anime series can be streamed from Funimation and Crunchyroll, while select seasons of the series are available on Hulu and Netflix.
