One Piece is celebrating several substantial milestones this year: in addition to the recent release of volume 100, the manga also released its 1000th individual chapter earlier this year. Japanese sales tracker Oricon revealed on Sept. 10 that Oda's long-running manga series had achieved a substantial new sales record as well: every single one of One Piece's 100 volumes has sold at least 1 million copies. One Piece is overall the best selling manga series of all time, with over half a billion copies in circulation worldwide.

The One Piece anime, which began airing in 1999 and has remained one of Japan's highest rated shows throughout its 22 year run, will also soon air its 1000th episode.

In addition to the new poster, a dramatic video series and music video that showcase One Piece's cross-generational cultural impact was recently released to celebrate all of the series' recent achievements. The live-action series has a soundtrack by Your Name's RADWIMPS and also features several reanimated scenes from the series' most iconic moments.

One Piece tells the story of Monkey D. Luffy, a young boy who dreams of one day becoming the king of the pirates, and he gets his chance shortly after he accidentally consumes the mysterious Gum Gum Fruit, which gives him the ability to stretch and grow his limbs.  Luffy eventually becomes the leader of the Straw Hat Pirates, a colorful gang of characters that includes the perverted chef Sanji, the master swordsman Zoro, and the intelligent but greedy cartographer Nami. Together, the Straw Hats set out to battle rival pirate crews and discover the titular One Piece, a mysterious treasure left behind by a legendary pirate captain.

Despite the series' on-going success, series creator Eiichiro Oda has hinted that the long-running series may finally being nearing its end. A recent advertisement for the 100th volume stated that Oda's opus was entering its "final stage." One Piece's next evolution will be a live-action series from Netflix. The new show is being co-produced by Tomorrow Pictures, the studio behind the upcoming live-action Cowboy Bebop remake, and will be executive produced by Oda himself.
