Once Upon a Deadpool Teaser Defends the Indefensible (Nickelback)

Once Upon a Deadpool Nickelback promo

Deadpool has endured a lot, but criticism of Nickelback proves to be a bridge too far in the new promo for Once Upon a Deadpool.

When Fred Savage compares Marvel movies produced by Fox to “if the Beatles were produced by Nickelback,” and then calls the band “overproduced, formulaic ear garbage," Ryan Reynolds' Merc with a Mouth closes the book on this fairy tale and sets the record straight. He rattles off the band’s achievements, and ends with a partridge in a bleeping pear tree, in deference to Once Upon a Deadpool's PG-13 rating.

Stunned by Deadpool's passion, the Princess Bride star attempts to apologize before launching into a duet of  “How You Remind Me," Nickleback’s best-known hit.

The band quickly followed with its own appreciation on Twitter.

Nickelback is one of the most commercially successful Canadian rocks bands, with more than 50 million albums sold worldwide. Their ninth album, Feed the Machine, was released in June 2017.

Screening in theaters from Dec. 12 to Dec. 24, Once Upon a Deadpool stars Ryan Reynolds, Zazie Beetz, Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapičić, Julian Dennison, Josh Brolin and Fred Savage.
