After success with their first "Once Upon A Time" graphic novel "Shadow of the Queen," Marvel Comics is expanding its relationship with the ABC drama with a new comics project.

Today the publisher announced an April 1 release for "Once Upon A Time: Out of the Past." Rather than a single narrative surrounding the fairy tale characters of the TV series, this new project is an anthology exploring the origins of various characters from the "Once" world. Marvel promised a look at how pirate Killian Jones became the roguish Captain Hook while battling a monster on the Leviathan Shoals, an early peek inside the relationship of Belle and the beastly Rumplestiltskin, Queen Regina's adventures in the enchanted forrest and the story behind the hiding of the Mad Hatter's world-jumping hat.

Like the previous OGN, "Out of the Past" will be co-written by comics scribe Corinna Bechko who will team with "Once" staff writer Kalinda Vazquez. The stories will be illustrated by a number of comic artists including Janet Lee, Pascal Campion, Vanesa Del Rey and Betsy Peterschmidt under a cover by Stacey Lee.

Now an anchor of ABC's Sunday night lineup, "Once Upon A Time" remains one of the biggest examples of the Disney companies corporate synergy with its recent exploration of the world of "Frozen." The show's expanding partnership with Marvel is just another front of the House of Mouse's cross-branding strategy.

"Once Upon A Time" returns to TV on March 1, and the new graphic novel follows from Marvel on April 1.
