Olivia Wilde recently teased her secret Marvel project and praised the studio's approach when it comes to embracing less-established filmmakers.

The actor and director addressed the unnamed upcoming movie, which is part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe, in an interview with Variety. "[The Marvel project] I can't say a word about. Yeah, no -- I can't say anything about it," she said. "I have to bury myself in the couch now [laughs]. I will say that I think the Marvel approach of allowing newer filmmakers to come into the fold and have access to those tools of the Marvel Universe is incredibly exciting. I am a big fan of what they're doing over there, but, yeah, I can't confirm whether that [project] is what [it] is. But that would be cool."

The news first broke that Wilde had signed on to helm a Marvel project in August 2020. Wilde will reportedly co-write the female-led film with Katie Silberman, with Amy Pascal and Rachel O'Connor producing. Since then, rumors have continued to persist that the project is a Spider-Woman movie, especially after Wilde retweeted a news story along with a spider emoji. Neither Marvel nor Sony have officially confirmed that a Spider-Woman movie is in the works, though.

What's Next for Sony's Spider-Man Universe?

Although details about Wilde's Marvel movie are still thin on the ground, the other upcoming entries in Sony's Spider-Man Universe continue to give fans plenty to mull over. The next installment in the franchise is Kraven the Hunter, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the eponymous comic book villain. Taylor-Johnson recently assured fans that his portrayal of Sergei Kravinov will deliver "the hunter that we all want to see." Kraven the Hunter hits theaters on Jan. 13, 2023.
