The Dagger is back as Freeform's Cloak & Dagger officially begins production on its second season.

Actress Olivia Holt posted on Instagram earlier today to confirm the start of filming on Season 2 of Cloak & Dagger. The actress' post comes a little over a week after Freeform announced the first table read of the season had taken place on Oct. 11. Thus far, very little regarding the second season is known, other than the fact that Season 2 will feature a classic Marvel villain: Mayhem.

The series, which proved to be a strong ratings performer for Freeform, was officially renewed for a second season in July when it was also revealed that Mayhem would be unleashed in the upcoming season. Showrunner Joe Pokaski revealed during Comic-Con International this year that the writers knew early on during the first season that Mayhem would be the main villain going into season two.

"We got very excited, the writers and I, when we were breaking the first season, because we knew who Mayhem was and we knew Brigid began as a friend and it was very exciting as writers to say, ‘Oh, low key, we can start telling the origin story of a villain in the most ninja way possible,'" he explained.

A release date for the 10-episode second season has yet to be announced, although the series is expected to return in Spring 2019.
