The Skywalker Saga of the Star Wars franchise has one of the most complete narratives in film, as it has chronicled the timeline of three generations of Skywalkers, leaving no stone unturned. As a result, it could be assumed that there's not much room for theorizing. In reality, the world of what ifs is more than abundant, thanks to the many plans that some series' heroes and villains had in their back pockets. In fact, one example of this finally explores where Obi-Wan Kenobi's place was in Palpatine's larger plan for galactic domination.

According to Reddit theorist, FlyingDutchman9977, Obi-Wan's fate in the larger scheme of things was to die on Grievous' ship while saving Palpatine. However, his survival proved that if he had died, Palpatine's schemes would've been a rousing success. It also showed how much last-minute planning had to be enacted to account for the Jedi Master's survival against Count Dooku. The theory may also have proved that without Kenobi, the galaxy likely would've never been saved by the Rebellion.

What Was Palpatine's Plan?

Sheev Palpatine was a politician and secret Sith Lord whose main goal was to control everything in the galaxy and raise the strength of the Dark Side. Once he did that, he would have the Sith Order finally control everything with his Final Order and amass so much power he would essentially become a God. To do this, many moving parts had to be enacted as well as his attempts to thwart a prophecy that could doom his plans forever.

His first steps in this plan were to start a war against the Republic and Trade Federation. Once the Clone Wars began, he started to use his powers over the Dark Side to cloud the Jedi's judgment and create doubt and dissension in their ranks. His final act was to separate Anakin Skywalker from his master, corrupt him and turn him to the Dark Side as his apprentice. While he succeeded in this plan no matter what, it likely could've happened more smoothly had the goodness in Anakin not compelled him to save his unconscious master following their duel with Count Dooku.

How Did Obi-Wan's Survival Change for the Sith Lord?

The theory went into how Obi-Wan Kenobi's place in Palpatine's plan proved how important he was. Had Kenobi died on Grievous' ship, Palpatine would've separated a grieving Anakin from his moral center, making it easier for him to be corrupted. Furthermore, with visions of Padmé's death, Sheev could use Kenobi's demise as further fuel to convince Anakin he could save the people he cared for using Dark Side abilities. Had Kenobi died, it would've also meant that Mace Windu would've likely gone to Utapau to stop Grievous. Therefore, with Yoda and Mace off-world, taking over the Jedi Temple would've been child play.

However, Kenobi's survival showed that Palpatine could still take over, but things would be more difficult. In fact, Obi-Wan's presence alone meant that Sheev would have to separate him from Anakin, and he'd have to get physical in a battle with Mace as a last resort. All of these events happened, but the biggest change was that with Kenobi alive, he was able to save countless surviving Jedi. He was also integral in building up the Rebellion, inspiring Leia and training Luke. In the end, the galaxy would've been doomed a lot sooner without Kenobi.
