Following the news that Disney+'s upcoming series starring Star Wars' Obi-Wan Kenobi has been indefinitely delayed, new information has surfaced regarding what the project will look like going forward.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, only two scripts had been written for the series when the decision was made to delay it. Sources say the scripts and story became a point of contention, resulting in an complete overhaul of the project.

While Disney has not released a statement on the matter, THR says Lucasfilm has opted to cut the series from six episodes down to four. Furthermore, Lucasfilm is currently looking to replace Hoessein Amin, who was previously attached to write the series. Despite the search for a new writer being underway, director Deborah Chow and star Ewan McGregor are currently still attached to the Obi-Wan series.

One source in particular claims the story outlined in the scripts was very similar to that of The Mandalorian, with McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi serving as a protector to a young Luke Skywalker, and possibly even a young Leia Organa -- not unlike how Pedro Pascal's Mandalorian became a parental figure to Baby Yoda.

At this time, it is unclear why the scripts became an issue so late in the show's development process. THR's sources say that before the decision was made to delay the series, Lucasfilm was already in the process of having new actors partake in screen tests with McGregor. In the wake of all these new developments, it is unclear when the show will once again begin the development process in earnest. That said, the hope is the scripts will be reworked in time for production to begin this summer.

McGregor -- who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy -- was confirmed to be reprising his role for an original series on Disney+ at D23 2019. The series, which is set to be helmed by The Mandalorian's Chow, will take place in the 19-year period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope -- presumably highlighting Obi-Wan's transformation into the mysterious hermit known as Ben Kenobi (originally played by Alec Guinness).
