The following contains spoilers for Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 1, Episode 6, "Part VI," now streaming on Disney+.

Obi-Wan Kenobi's finale brought Obi-Wan's journey to a strong conclusion. Yet Star Wars fans have already begun asking about a possible Season 2. Ewan McGregor also told Variety that he "hopes we do another" season. While seeing more of McGregor in the iconic role sounds fantastic, does Obi-Wan's story need a second season?

Obi-Wan Kenobi told the story of the iconic Jedi facing his failures, overcoming his self-doubt and helping to re-discover hope in the galaxy far, far away. While it may have benefited from a couple more episodes, an entire second season may be too much. The show brought Obi-Wan full circle. It perfectly merged Revenge of the Sith with A New Hope and fixed plot holes. Stretching out more of a good thing can ruin it altogether. A second season would need to carefully consider the character arc and the story being told.

The series ended with Obi-Wan accepting that while he may have failed Anakin, Vader ultimately chose his dark path. He made peace with himself and the fall of the Republic, and was able to re-establish his deep connection to the Force. Obi-Wan was left content to watch over Luke until the galaxy needed his help again. After going from legendary hero to a broken man and then finally at peace with himself, it would be difficult to throw Obi-Wan into another conflict without destroying his character growth.

Admittedly, there are still a few more stories that can be told about the Jedi Master; the difficulty is in justifying Obi-Wan leaving Tatooine and abandoning his duty to Luke again. A future season could take place on Tatooine, looking at protecting Luke from unknown threats, helping a fugitive or even dealing with the Hutt crime syndicate on Tatooine. But those plots might work better in an anthology format like the upcoming Tales of the Jedi, rather than being their own standalone series.

It's difficult not to want more Obi-Wan stories after so long. McGregor's performance is stunning and made his return worth the wait. But there is something to be said about leaving a story alone and letting it resonate with the audience. If viewers are always expecting a sequel or a second season, it can be harder to appreciate the depth of the first one. Obi-Wan Kenobi is capable of standing on its own as an in-depth study of Obi-Wan's trauma and his journey to master himself once again.

Obi-Wan Kenobi has given Star Wars fans some of the moments they had been wanting to see for years and some they never expected. It delivered intense emotions, excitement, tension and true fear. McGregor, Hayden Christensen and Moses Ingram all elevated the entire series. While it isn't without its flaws, Obi-Wan Kenobi told a truly compelling story about suffering and healing. While having another season with these characters would be fun, it may not be the correct storytelling decision.

All six episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi are now streaming on Disney+.
