Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has revealed that Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 is not in active development.

Speaking with Variety at Star Wars Celebration 2023, Kennedy shared that Lucasfilm is not currently working on Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2, but discussed how the door remains open for it. "That is not in active development," Kennedy said. "But I never say never, because there’s always the possibility. That show was so well-received and [director] Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job. Ewan McGregor really wants to do another. Everybody’s all hands on deck with what we’re doing right now, as you can see by what we showed everybody [at the Celebration]. We’ll turn our attention to that again maybe down the road."

Kennedy's statements show that the status of Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 has not changed since its Season 1 finale released on Disney+ back in June 2022. Kennedy said then of the series, "We did set out to do that as a limited series," adding, "But I think if there's huge engagement and people really want more Obi-Wan, we'll certainly give that consideration because the fans, they speak to us." As the Lucasfilm boss referenced, in Jan. 2023, star Ewan McGregor expressed his own interest in another season, saying, "I was so happy to do it again, and so happy to work with Hayden again, and I hope we get the chance to do it again."

Anakin Skywalker Returns to Star Wars Before Obi-Wan Kenobi

McGregor starred as Obi-Wan Kenobi for the series after playing the character across three Star Wars films released between 1999 and 2005, beginning with Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. Not only did McGregor return for Obi-Wan Kenobi after so many years, but so did actor Hayden Christensen, who reprised his role as Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. The two actors hadn't picked up their lightsabers onscreen since Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith released in 2005, and although Christensen is now set to return as Anakin once again in Disney+'s upcoming Ahsoka series starring Rosario Dawson, another outing as Kenobi for McGregor remains uncertain as of writing.

Ahsoka is one of the many projects given the spotlight at Star Wars Celebration that Kennedy alluded to. Because an Obi-Wan Kenobi panel with McGregor, Christensen and Tala Durith actor Indira Varma was also scheduled for the event in early March, it fueled speculation that fans could be getting a surprise Season 2 announcement, hopes that appear to now be dashed. Other projects present at the event have included Skeleton Crew and Andor, the latter of which is actually getting a second season on Disney+, along with announcements of future movies, including a new trilogy featuring the return of actor Daisy Ridley as Jedi Rey Skywalker.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is available to stream now on Disney+.
