Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor has teased the possibility of a younger Luke Skywalker appearing on the limited Star Wars series.

When interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter, McGregor revealed he "has done some screen tests with [Obi-Wan Kenobi director] Deborah [Chow] and other people, and I can see that she is a really, really good director." Of course, when asked if those screen tests included an actor cast as Luke, McGregor played coy, saying "That's very possible. I don't know."

Set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will follow McGregor's Jedi Master during his period of exile on Tatooine, watching Luke grow up from afar. Reports of the show featuring a younger Luke first surfaced in Dec. 2019, based on an alleged casting grid. Later, in July 2020, the series was rumored to be casting a male and female actor around eight to eleven years old to play a pair of "precocious" twins, possibly even Luke and his sister Leia. So far, though, Lucasfilm has yet to announce any cast members for Obi-Wan Kenobi that fall within or close to that age bracket.

Should Luke appear on Obi-Wan Kenobi, it wouldn't be the first live-action Star Wars show under Disney's watch to feature the character. Famously, The Mandalorian Season 2 finale included a surprise appearance by the Jedi Master that was kept secret ahead of the episode's premiere, even from some of the cast. In that case, actor Max Lloyd-Jones stood-in for Luke on the series' set, prior to his face/voice being replaced during post-production by digitally de-aged recreations of Original Trilogy star Mark Hamill's.

Interestingly, it was reported the Obi-Wan Kenobi series originally focused on Obi-Wan serving as young Luke and maybe young Leia's protector. However, that storyline was supposedly considered too similar to Din Djarin becoming Grogu's father-figure on The Mandalorian, which led to the show's scripts being overhauled.

Directed by Deborah Chow, Obi-Wan Kenobi stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, Moses Ingram, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie and Maya Erskine. The series has yet to receive a premiere date.
