Obi-Wan Kenobi is headed to the silver screen for an extremely limited release accompanied by a Q&A from some of the show's biggest names.
Per Collider, the latest entry into the Star Wars franchise will be receiving a theatrical release thanks to a special screening being held at Toronto's Scotiabank Theatre. The release will be followed by a Q&A session with showrunner Deborah Chow and returning star Hayden Christensen. The one-time marathon will screen all six episodes of the series, the final of which is set to debut on June 22.
Obi-Wan Kenobi, set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, follows the titular Jedi master's life in exile following the rise of the Galactic Empire. The series also explores the hunt for those who survived Order 66. This search for any remaining Jedi is led by the Inquisitors played by Rupert Friend, Moses Ingram, and Sung Kang. Apart from giving the likes of Friend's Grand Inquisitor his live-action debut, Obi-Wan Kenobi also marks the return of Christensen to the role of Darth Vader for the first time in nearly two decades.
Christensen has previously opened up about returning to the role as well as his hopes to continue playing the iconic Sith Lord. "I think this is a character that sort of resonates within our culture in a very profound way and there's certainly more there to explore, you know?" Christensen said. "There are so many other stories that have been told in these other mediums and I would love to get to continue my journey with [Darth Vader]."
Chow has commented on the likelihood of a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, saying that "We really did conceive this like a beginning, middle, and end. It is one big story, and it was always meant to be. You can never tell what happens in the future." Despite Chow's statements, industry insiders claim that the series' success has resulted in Disney and Lucasfilm greenlighting a second season.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy echoed Chow's sentiment, saying, "The approach has always been that it is one full story." Kennedy, however, did follow up with the caveat that "It's certainly something we talk about." She explained the situation further, stating that "Everybody came together and had such an incredible time. Ewan [McGregor] had an incredible time. Hayden [Christensen] had an incredible time. So certainly from that point of view, everybody involved would love to see this not end."
The first five episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi are streaming now on Disney+. The sixth and final episode arrives on June 22.
