Ewan McGregor has confessed to bawling his eyes out after watching one Obi-Wan Kenobi scene, specifically.
The headliner sat down with Star Wars co-star Hayden Christensen for the Disney Studio Awards, where he revealed that he finally got around to watching the entire first season of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Interestingly, one particular scene in Episode 6, where he parts from his young, fateful royal companion, Leia Organa (Vivien Lyra Blair), left the Scottish actor emotionally moved. "When I tell her, 'May the Force Be With You,' at the end, I burst into tears," said McGregor. "I think, the beautiful music, but also here, and the fact that he's saying goodbye to her, I find it really moving, and the fact that he doesn't say it to her, they saved it, until right at the end."
Obi-Wan Kenobi's Emotional Moments
Besides Obi-Wan's precious scene with Leia, McGregor's reunion with Liam Neeson similarly evoked tears. Neeson, who first played Qui-Gon Jinn in the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, returned to put on his Jedi robes for Episode 6, the final episode of the Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries. The prequel character emerges in the episode's final scene as a Force Ghost, tasking himself with further imparting Obi-Wan his teachings from the afterlife of the Force. In terms of other future Star Wars projects, Neeson confirmed he would voice Qui-Gon in a single episode of the anthology series Tales of the Jedi.
Obi-Wan Kenobi was initially planned as a movie, only to become a limited series. However, there appears to be some leeway on the "limited" part since McGregor expressed interest in a second season. "In the old days, I would joke about, 'There must be a good story to tell between 'Episode III' and 'VI.'' But it's true. I always felt that there was," said the Trainspotting actor. Lucasfilm and series writer Stuart Beattie also voiced support in favor of Season 2, but the company has not confirmed any plans to revisit Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Premiering back in May 2022, Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. After Anakin Skywalker becomes the Sith Lord Darth Vader, Obi-Wan hides on the planet of Tatooine to watch over his apprentice's son, Luke. The Disney+ series follows the Jedi Master and his mission to rescue Anakin's daughter, Leia (who was raised as the daughter of Alderaan's sovereign, Bail Organa), from the Galactic Empire's Inquisitors, which leads to an epic confrontation between Obi-Wan and his former apprentice.
In addition to Christensen, McGregor and Neeson's Star Wars role reprisals, Obi-Wan Kenobi features a variety of other key players. Indeed, the cast also includes Blair as Leia, Indira Varma as Tala Durith and Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars. Fans recognize Owen as Anakin's step-brother and Luke's uncle, as played in the Prequel Trilogy. Additionally, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea and Scrubs star Zach Braff also briefly appear on the series.
