Ewan McGregor reprised his Star Wars role as Obi-Wan Kenobi once again, but this time it wasn't for a Lucasfilm project. McGregor appeared as the Jedi Master during a recent episode of Comic Relief that aired on the BBC, as part of a sketch parodying the popular reality television show The Traitors. Hosted by Alan Cumming, The Traitors aired originally in the UK in 2022 before premiering in the US via Peacock. Along with McGregor, the sketch featured Alison Hammond and Mary Berry from The Great British Baking Show, Stephen Merchant, Danny Dyer, Jennifer Saunders, and two contestants from the first season of Traitors.
McGregor debuted as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the first film of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, 1999's Episode I – The Phantom Menace and reprised the role in 2002's Episode II – Attack of the Clones. His last appearance as the Jedi Master was in 2005's Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, which concluded the prequel trilogy and saw Hayden Christensen's Anakin Skywalker complete his transformation into the villainous Darth Vader. Over a decade later, McGregor would return to the role in Disney+'s limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi, which takes place ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith.
Will Obi-Wan Kenobi Get a Second Season?
Reports of a possible Season 2 came after the massive success of Obi-Wan Kenobi's two-episode premiere, which broke the record as the most-watched Disney+ original series premiere to date. However, the series has not yet been officially renewed for another season by Lucasfilm and Disney, though McGregor has expressed his hopes to return to the role once again.
"I was so happy to do it again, and so happy to work with Hayden again, and I hope we get the chance to do it again," he said in January. "In the old days, I would joke about, ‘There must be a good story to tell between 'Episode III' and 'VI'.’ But, it’s true. I always felt that there was."
Along with McGregor, Obi-Wan Kenobi stars Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Jimmy Smits and James Earl Jones as the voice of Darth Vader. Christensen, who portrayed Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, reprised his role as Darth Vader in the series as well. In a previous interview, when asked about returning as the Star Wars franchise's most iconic villain, Christensen said it was a "no-brainer." The actor also noted that it felt "natural" coming back to the character -- and to Star Wars -- after 15 years.
