Star Wars Celebration 2023 brought together many stars from across the Star Wars franchise, allowing opportunities for various actors from a multitude of projects to meet one another. One of those meetings brought Star Wars: The Clone Wars actor James Arnold Taylor together with Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor.

On social media, Taylor celebrated finally meeting his live-action counterpart and iconic franchise star Ewan McGregor, who brought Obi-Wan to life on the big screen before Taylor was able to lend his voice to the character in the animated shows. "After 21 years finally got to shake hands & say a quick 'Hello there' to the wonderful & kind Sir Ewan."

Taylor made his vocal debut as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the 2D animated series, Star Wars: Clone Wars back in 2003, which explored the events leading up to Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones. The show ran for two years, ending in 2005. Taylor reprised the role in 2008 with Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which ran until 2014 and saw a brief revival in 2020 with "The Final Season."

McGregor, on the other hand, has mainly played Obi-Wan on the big screen. He made his debut as the iconic Jedi in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, which saw Obi-Wan rise from the rank of Padawan under Master Qui-Gon to Jedi Knight. McGregor returned to the role for two subsequent films, seemingly ending his tenure in Revenge of the Sith. After nearly two decades, however, McGregor returned to the robes of the Jedi knight in Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi, for which he was reunited with co-star Hayden Christensen.

Will the Jedi Return?

The six-episode miniseries, Obi-Wan Kenobi, premiered in May 2022 to mostly positive reviews. Critics and audiences praised McGregor's return as the titular Star Wars character, as well as that of Christensen. The success of the show has led to widespread speculation about the potential for a second season-- something McGregor himself appeared to call for at this year's Star Wars Celebration.

At the same event, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed the show is "not in active development," though she added, "I never say never, because there’s always the possibility. That show was so well-received and [director] Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job. Ewan McGregor really wants to do another... We’ll turn our attention to that again maybe down the road."

Obi-Wan Kenobi and Star Wars: The Clone Wars are available to stream on Disney+.
