Ewan McGregor will reportedly have a recurring role on the upcoming Star Wars series Andor.

The Illuminerdi is reporting that McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi will appear in the Rogue One prequel series that will follow Rebel spy Cassian Andor in the days before his fateful final mission. No other details or information were provided, but if true, it proves just how interconnected the Disney+ Star Wars shows will be.

McGregor will also be headlining his own prequel/sequel series that will follow Obi-Wan in the years between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. That show will also feature the return of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. The precise time period of the Obi-Wan solo series is unknown, but it could well overlap with Andor given its loose timeframe.

As for Andor, the show began filming back in December after an incredibly rocky start. First announced in the spring of 2019, The Americans showrunner Stephen Schiff was set to helm the series with a start date of October 2019. By that fall, pre-production on the series had halted. Tony Gilroy, who co-wrote Rogue One and directed the film's reshoots after Lucasfilm and original director Gareth Edwards parted ways, stepped in and reportedly saved the show from being abandoned. By April 2020, Gilroy officially took over as the showrunner.

The pandemic then delayed filming until the winter, and Gilroy decided not to head to the UK and direct the first three episodes as planned. He remains aboard as the showrunner and an executive producer, and Black Mirror's Toby Haynes will handle directing duties for the first batch of episodes. Haynes will reportedly be joined by directors Benjamin Caron (The Crown) and Susanna White (The Deuce).

Set five years prior to the mission to take down the Death Star, Andor is described as a spy thriller set in the world of the nascent Rebellion and the tyranny of the Empire. Diego Luna will be joined by his Rogue One costar as Mon Mothma, the leader of the Rebel Alliance. When the series was announced, Alan Tudyk was also set to reprise his role as Cassian's droid sidekick, K-2SO, but the actor has since claimed he will not be appearing on the series.

Disney+'s Andor stars Diego Luna, Adria Arjona, Genevieve O'Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Denise Gough and Kyle Soller. The series will arrive on Disney+ in 2022.
