Disney+'s upcoming Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi will reportedly feature a battle between the exiled Jedi Master and his former apprentice, Darth Vader.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed at Disney Investor Day 2020 that McGregor's fellow prequel alum Hayden Christensen will also reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. Kennedy then teased that Obi-Wan Kenobi will reunite the pair for "the rematch of the century." Making Star Wars recently reported details from the series' production, revealing where the fight fits into the series' story, how long the fight took to film and even who lands the first blow.

According to the reports, Obi-Wan Kenobi will see the Jedi causing mayhem for the newly-formed Galactic Empire. At one point, Kenobi will stir up trouble by completing a rescue mission, successfully saving a character key to the Rebel Alliance's cause. As matters escalate, Darth Vader dispatches from his castle on Mustafar in an effort to intercept his former master.

The duel's filming reportedly began with the pair reuniting in an environment rife with dirt, sand and rock formations that resemble those of planets like Jedha, Tatooine and Geonosis. Despite Vader being garbed head-to-toe in his iconic black suit, a ragged Kenobi recognizes the fallen Skywalker immediately. As Vader closes in, intent on engaging, Kenobi opens the fight with a monumental Force Push that launches Vader through the air and into what looks to be a rock wall. Like "a Terminator taking a powerful hit," Vader rises again and slowly reapproaches, prepared to enact his revenge.

The reports went on to suggest that the battle took about two weeks to shoot in August of 2021, which was around the time when filming reportedly wrapped on the series. While Christensen did wear the Darth Vader suit during some of the series' shooting, the actor was not the face behind the mask during the filming of the saber duel.

Other than Kennedy's hints and the occasional peek at leaked concept art, Lucasfilm has yet to say much about Obi-Wan Kenobi, leaving little room to corroborate or disprove the recent reports. The series' story will follow Kenobi during his exile on Tatooine between the events of Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope. In addition to McGregor and Christensen, the series features actors Maya Erskine, Moses Ingram, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie and Joel Edgerton. All six episodes will be directed by Deborah Chow, who helmed multiple episodes of The Mandalorian.
