The upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series is narrowing its search for its female co-lead, and a rising genre actor is in the running.
An industry source stated that Naomi Scott is in the running to portray Riley/Eve, alongside Thuso Mbedu and Anula Navlekar, as reported by The Illuminerdi.
Scott portrayed Princess Jasmine in the live-action remake of Disney's Aladdin. She recently starred in the Elizabeth Banks-helmed remake of Charlie's Angels. She also portrayed Kimberly Hart in the 2017 Power Rangers movie.
Navlekar is a relatively unknown actor, while Mbedu will appear in Barry Jenkins' Amazon Prime television series, The Underground Railroad.
Obi-Wan Kenobi will take place in between the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope. It focuses on the life of Obi-Wan Kenobi, who has taken up residence on Tatooine to protect Luke Skywalker. Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as Obi-Wan from the Star Wars prequel trilogy, while Deborah Chow (The Mandalorian) will direct the series. Joby Harold will write the series, in addition to a Space Mountain movie for Disney and a Transformers film to be helmed by Creed II director Steven Caple Jr.
Directed by Deborah Chow and starring Ewan McGregor, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series is currently in development for Disney+ and has yet to receive a premiere date or official title. The series will begin production in the United Kingdom in March 2021.
