Syfy's acclaimed time-travel drama "12 Monkeys" will return next year for a 10-episode third season, which appears to be all about the Witness, the leader of the Army of the 12 Monkeys.

The trailer, which debuted Saturday at New York Comic Con, focuses on the year 2163, with images that cut from a lush forest to urban devastation amid a cacophony of voices that eventually repeat the refrain that "The witness is safe." It ends ominously with a baby's cry.

The video is accompanied on YouTube by the words, "The Witness is safe, but are you? Meesta Cole. Say it again, about 90 times."

If you haven't been watching the show, that might might not seem so spectacular, or haunting, but regular viewers are probably still digesting the full implications of the Season Two finale.

Suffice to say that going into Season Three, the show's main characters Cassandra (Amanda Schull) and James Cole (Aaron Stanford) are now more intimately entwined in the intricacies of the show's ever-evolving time-travel plot than ever before. They look to be in for one hell of a ride.

"12 Monkeys" returns in 2017 on Syfy.
