The world is in a pretty bad state in the latest trailer for “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.” Washington, D.C., has fallen, monuments are in ruins and the only signs of life are the walking dead and the radically mutated. There doesn’t seem to be a whole lot to fight for, so all that’s left is revenge.

Debuted today by Sony Pictures at New York Comic Con, the shows series protagonist Alice (Milla Jovovich) waking to a world decimated by the biological meddling of the Umbrella Corporation. In the aftermath of disaster, Alice is determined to end the fight once and for all by taking it back to the Hive, ground zero for where the worldwide infection — and the film series — began.

“Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” is the sixth installment in the film franchise based on the Japanese horror video game series (aka "Biohazard"), which debuted in 1996 Sony PlayStation. “Resident Evil”  is the highest-grossing film franchise based on a video game.

Written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” also stars Ali Larter, Ruby Rose, Iain Glen and Shawn Roberts. The film arrives Jan. 27, 2017, in the United States.
