Brian Wood ("Star Wars," "The Massive") is jumping into CCP Games' popular "EVE Online" video game universe for a new miniseries, "EVE: Valkyrie." The announcement was made by Dark Horse Comics during their "Powered By Creators" panel at New York Comic Con. Artist Eduardo Francisco -- who previously worked on "Captain Midnight" for the publisher -- will be joining Wood for the comic book adaption of the immersive MMORPG.

The new miniseries will be based on the in-development game of the same name and will tell the origin story of pilot Rán and the rise of the Valkyrie. According to the press release, "'EVE: Valkyrie' is a multiplayer dogfighting shooter set in the EVE universe that uses virtual reality to give players the sense of being real pilots in EVE Online spaceships. It is based on the EVE-VR tech demo that won several major awards at E3 2013."

In an interview with IGN, Wood talked about writing a comic book based on a video game that relies on a virtual reality headset. "Obviously, my story isn't all cockpit fighter scenes. There's lots of other scenes. But I really wanted to make sure when we do show these dogfight scenes that we use that point of view -- that first-person view that you see in the game -- frequently," said Wood. "You can never replicate a VR screen in a comic book panel, but I definitely wanted to make sure we had that point of view often, to reference back to the game."

Since announcing their partnerships with CCP Games in April 2013, this is the third book Dark Horse has produced with the "EVE Online" license, following "EVE: True Stories," and "EVE Source."

"EVE: Valkyrie" #1 is on sale June 3, 2015.
