Season 2 of Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" animated series is set to feature Carol Danvers' Captain Marvel and Adam Warlock, as the show looks to digs deeper into the cosmic side of Marvel Universe.

The news broke at the New York Comic Con during the Marvel Animation Panel hosted by Cort Lane (Marvel SVP, Animation and Family Entertainment) and Stephen Wacker (Marvel VP, Current Series & Development), covered live by CBR.

Attendees were also treated to a special screening of the first episode of "Guardians of the Galaxy" Season 2, which sees Captain Marvel, Rocket and Groot imprisoned by the High Evolutionary in space, and Star-Lord, Gamora and Drax on Earth, along with the Avengers, on a mission to save the planet and retrieve the captured Guardians.

In addition to her animated adventures, fan-favorite Captain Marvel is also due to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2018, with actor Brie Larson set to don the costume first in “Avengers: Infinity War,” before headlining her own solo film, currently scheduled for release March 8, 2019.

Season 2 of Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" animated series is expected to air in 2017 on Disney XD.
