After a year without a new "Doctor Who" episode, the Time Lord makes a triumphant return to TV screens this Christmas in an episode titled "The Return of Doctor Mysterio," and it seems this time Peter Capaldi's Doctor will be facing a superhero played by "American Gothic" star Justin Chatwin.

The episode's title was revealed in a promotional trailer created especially for the New York Comic Con and released on the BBC America YouTube channel. The clip shows both preview and behind-the-scenes footage from the impending festive extravaganza, with Chatwin, best known for his role in the US version of "Shameless," briefly visible in an armored costume as well as what appears to be a civilian identity.

Judging from the big letter "G" on Chatwin's super-suit, he won't be playing Doctor Mysterio, a title that seems more likely to be applied to our favorite Time Lord in what will probably be some kind of case of mistaken identity.

The footage also shows comedian Matt Lucas, returning as the character Nardole for both the second Christmas episode in a row and for the long-running sci-fi show's upcoming tenth series. In the video, Lucas holds up a number of signs, one of which seems to indicate that the episode's Xmas action will be taking place in New York City.

The 2016 "Doctor Who" Christmas special is expected to air on December 25 on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US, with Series 10, featuring Peter Capaldi, Matt Lucas and new companion Pearl Mackie, airing in Spring 2017.
