New York City will be reopening its movie theaters, with several restrictions.

After being shut down for nearly a year due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that theaters in New York City will reopen starting March 5, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

While some theaters around New York City slowly began reopening in 2020, movie theaters in NYC will now open at 25 percent capacity with strict policies for moviegoers. No more than 50 people will be permitted in one auditorium; each will require masks, assigned seating and advanced air filtration as well.

New York is not the only major city to reopen its movie theaters -- in response to the declining number of COVID-19 cases in the country, the Honk Kong government recently announced that cinemas and theme parks may now reopen.

Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon will be the first movie to experience this NYC reopening as it is set to premiere simultaneously in theaters and on Dinsey+ on March 5. Along with that, Regal Cinemas announced plans to reopen its theaters again in spring 2021 after keeping its U.S. locations closed since Oct. 2020.
