Movie theaters across the country this weekend will be ruled by The Nun.

The latest spinoff prequel for Warner Bros.' popular Conjuring film franchise is currently on track to have the best opening weekend of the entire series with industry analysts predicting the upcoming horror film will earn $36-45 million at the domestic box office including Thursday night previews.

The previous record holder for the franchise was the first film, The Conjuring which opened to $41.8 million in July 2013. Advance ticket sales for The Nun have already surpassed preorders for 2016's The Conjuring 2 and last year's Annabelle: Creation.

Originally, Warner Bros. had scheduled The Nun for a July release similar to previous entries in the horror franchise but, after the runaway success of last year's It opening in September, the studio pushed the spinoff's release by two months in hopes of replicating its success with a less crowded late summer release window.

With the review embargo on the upcoming prequel scheduled to be lifted tomorrow, it will be interesting to see how critics are responding to the film and if the critical response will impact its opening weekend.

Directed by Corin Hardy, The Nun stars Demián Bichir, Taissa Farmiga and Jonas Bloquet. It is scheduled to open in theaters everywhere on September 7.
