But the more the super substance pops up in various DC storylines, we more we learn about its wondrous capabilities.

Today, we're going to discuss 10 facts about Nth Metal that even the most die-hard DC comics fans don't know. If you think that Adamantium and Vibranium are incredible alloys, wait until you get a load of what DC's alien alloy really can do!

10 It's A Hyper-Conductive Metal

You don't need to have a P.H.D. in physics to know that metals are some of the most conductive materials in our universe. Copper is so great at conducting electricity that we've crammed tons of the stuff in our smartphones, supercomputers, and sports cars. Google "most conductive metal" real quick and you'll see that silver holds that distinguished title.

Surprisingly enough, Nth Metal is hyper-conductive! There are a billion pictures of Hawkgirl and Hawkman tanking bolts of lightning and jolts of electricity. As it turns out, hyper-conductivity is one of the main reasons that the Hawk Clan can perform such feats.

9 It Has Its Own AC System

The heroes of the DC Universe will fight the forces of evil at any time and at any place. Rain, sleet, or snow, champions like the Justice League, Legion of Superheroes, and Teen Titans will rise to the occasion. The Hawks are no exception to this trend either, willing to do battle in the middle of Antartica while essentially wearing on nothing but yoga pants and harnesses! One has to wonder how Hawkman and Hawkgirl don't freeze to death in the vacuum on space.

As it turns out, Nth Metal can regulate its users' temperatures; if the Hawks are in a cold environment, their battle suits will generate heat. The reverse is true if Hawkman or Hawkgirl are heading someplace hot.

8 Black Mask Tried to Rob A Bank With It

Roman Sionis, best known as Black Mask, is a major career criminal who lives in Gotham City. Black Bask and Batman duke it out on a regular basis. Sionis often recruits other bad guys to help him beat the Bat. In turn, the Dark Knight will enlist the aid of other heroes when the odds against him are stacked too high.

During the episode "What Goes Up..." of The Batman (2004), Black Mask recruits the Shadow Thief to help him rob a metahuman bank using Nth Metal. In response, Batman asks Hawkman to help himself and Robin turn the tables on Sionis and the Shadow Thief.

7 Earth-Two Nth Metal Came From Egypt

Once upon a time, DC Comics had some trouble with its continuity. To rectify certain issues, the company introduced the concept of a Multiverse in the "Flash of Two Worlds!" storyline. During this story arc, we learn that multiple versions of Earth exist that each contains different versions of classic heroes like the Flash, Superman, and the Hawks.

In Earth-Two, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and Nth Metal all originate from Egpyt instead of Thanaga; the Earth-Two versions of the Hawks lived in ancient Egypt as royalty. Once they encounter "Ninth Metal" for the first time, they're made immortal and receive their powers.

6 Nth Metal Has An Atomic Number

Time for a quick refresher on basic chemistry! There are about 118 elements on the Periodic Table. All of these bad boys are divided into different little subgroups and are further distinguished by their electron configurations, chemical properties, and atomic numbers. Now you might not think that it's possible to apply real-world science to a fictional metal, but that's exactly what DC Comics did to Nth Metal.

According to the Justice League Animated Series, Nth Metal is classified as a Transuranic Metal with an Atomic Number of 676. To add some perspective, this element has a whopping 676 protons orbiting its nucleus while Uranium only as an Atomic Number of 235!

5 It Can Restore Powers (And Take Them Away)

On the surface, Nth Metal might seem like it's just another kind of super tough comic book metal. But this stuff is actually magical and can grant users a wide array of powers and abilities. The Hawks' gifts of flight, super strength, super speed, and enhanced durability all stem from their connection to the mystical metal.

But Nth Metal can also take those same powers away. In "Cataclysm, Part Three: London Falling," Carter Hall is stripped of his powers and nearly dies in the process. Carter spends the entire comic searching for a way to restore his Hawkman abilities. He eventually does and becomes wiser - and less dependent on the super metal - in the aftermath.

4 The TMNT's Donatello Uses The Metal

Injustice 2 features a cadre of classic DC Comics heroes and villains as well as a slew of Guest Fighters from other franchises. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles joined Injustice 2's roster as downloadable characters included in Fighter Pack 3. Players could throw down as either Leonardo, Raphael, Michaelangelo, or Donatello.

Should an individual play as Donatello and fight against Hal Jordan, the Brainy Brother will reveal that he's recently upgraded his staff with Nth Metal! Like we get it - Donnie's is a genius. But even some of the DC Universe's best and brightest have trouble with Nth Metal. Donnie figured out how to use the stuff mere moments after entering the Injustice world!

3 It's A Ghostbuster

'If there's something weird and it don't look good, who you gonna call?' Apparently Hawkman, Hawkgirl, or anyone else with a bunch of Nth Metal on deck. We mentioned earlier that Nth Metal has a slew of magical properties. Incidentally, one of those properties allows people to fight off ghosts!

One of Hawkman and Hawkgirl's greatest foes is a fellow by the name of Gentleman Ghost. Well, GG's actual name is Jim Craddock. He's a ghost from the 19th century who uses his corporeal powers to terrorize people. The Hawks discovered that their maces could hurt Craddock as well as any other spirit or specter.

2 Barbatos Is Vulnerable to Nth Metal

Dark Knights: Metal was a huge crossover event that ran from June 2017 to March 2018. During the event, a bunch of evil Batmen from alternate versions of Earth invade and wage war against the Justice League! Near the end of the first few issues, we learn that a demonic entity named Barbatos is the villain behind the invasion.

The heroes of the DC Universe are unable to affect the Dark Knights and spend a long time getting beatdown by them. Eventually, the good guys learn that Nth Metal can harm Barbatos and his army of evil Batmen. The out-of-universe reason why Barbatos can be hurt by Nth Metal is simple; nine is a holy number in many world myths and religions. Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo based Barbatos off of demons from various pantheons.

1 It's Alive!

After reading about all of these other crazy things that Nth Metal can do, is it really any surprise that the stuff is sentient? In its purest form, Nth Metal can change its shape at will and morph into different forms to suit its user's needs.

We really got to see this in the Savage Hawkman comics. At one point in time, Kater Hol (the New 52 version of Carter Hall,) possessed pure Nth Metal. He was able to make all sorts of weapons and equipment with his thoughts alone. Even refined forms of the Thanagrian metal can form symbiotic relationships with individuals that wield it.
