While the original Star Trek mixed in copious amounts of action to temper the heavy educational message in almost every episode, creator Gene Roddenberry's dream has come even more true with the announcement of something called Star Trek Live. It's Trek, Jim. But not as we know it.

Star Trek Live will be a 30 minute live stage show that uses the familiar settings of the TV and movie franchise as a tool to educate audiences about real scientific facts. According to the press release,

In the show, the audience portrays new Starfleet cadets assembled for the first day at the Starfleet Academy led by its best and brightest. The new cadets will have to learn quickly the intricacies of living and working in space, modern space travel and the latest in communication and technology.

In other words, imagine a really short science lesson, but one taught to you by someone pretending to come from the 23rd century.

Star Trek Live debuts June 11th at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
