New Mutants actress Anya Taylor-Joy is looking to reunite with The Witch director Robert Eggers.
Variety reports the actress is in negotiations to star in the filmmaker’s remake of Nosferatu, from Studio 8. Eggers is writing and directing the project, based on F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent horror film, which starred Max Schreck as the vampire Count Orlok.
An unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Nosferatu has a lasting legacy in film and has been the basis for many other works. Werner Herzog previously directed a remake in 1979.
Eggers had previously wanted Anya Taylor-Joy to join the film, however, he had to wait until after she had finished M. Night Shyamalan’s Split before she could join the cast.
Taylor-Joy is set to play Illyana Rasputin in director Josh Boone’s X-Men spinoff New Mutants, which is expected to integrate horror elements into a story of young mutants trying to escape from a secret facility where they’re held against their will.
The cast also includes Maisie Williams Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Mirage and Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes. The Fox film is set for release on April 13, 2018.
Eggers’ 2015 horror film The Witch was the breakout film for the 21-year-old Taylor-Joy, who appeared earlier this year in M. Night Shyamalan’s Split. She’ll reprise her role in the sequel Glass, which also stars James McAvoy, Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson.
