In an exclusive interview with CBR following the series finale's initial airing, O'Brien expressed hopes that the series would be renewed by AMC, hinting that a potential third season could follow Vic and her son after their traumatic encounters against the monstrous Charlie Manx. The vampire had preyed on children to stay eternally young, menacing Vic across the first two seasons before their longstanding feud reached a dramatic finish in the Season 2 finale.

Adapting the Hill novel of the same name, NOS4A2 was developed by O'Brien and premiered on AMC in June 2019 before being renewed for a second season the following month.
