There's no two ways about it: Clowns are evil creatures from the very bowels of Hell. The Joker, Pennywise, Violator, Bozo, Ronald -- you name them, they're bad news for any unfortunate soul who might encounter them.

So when the aptly named Northampton Clown began terrorizing -- or at least creeping out -- the residents of Alan Moore's hometown, one person made it his mission to stop him. No, not Moore, although his wizardly powers might come in handy. Instead, it's a guy in a Superman Halloween costume who calls himself Boris the Clown Catcher.

The clown, which looks unnervingly like the aforementioned Pennywise from Stephen King's It, first appeared in the English town on Sept. 13 (yes, Friday the 13th). According to United Press International, witnesses claims he says "Beep, beep" whenever he approaches people (another nod to Pennywise), and knocks on windows, only to stand there silently.

Although some residents may be rattled by the Northampton Clown, others have turned clown-spotting into a sport; he even has a Facebook page, which has undoubtedly helped to draw international interest in his activities.

But for all of the news outlets scrambling for details, it was the local Chronicle & Echo that scored the "world-exclusive" first interview with the Northampton Clown, who assures (perhaps not so convincingly" that, "“I just wanted to amuse people."

“Most people enjoy being a bit freaked out and then they can laugh about it afterwards," he told the newspaper. "It’s like watching a horror movie, when people get scared they usually start laughing. “Naturally, some people would have been extremely frightened by what they saw, but I hope many are starting to see it as a bit of harmless fun.”

Indeed, the Northampton Police confirmed earlier this week that, "we have neither arrested nor dealt with any crimes involving anyone dressed as a clown."

Of course, he may be lulling Northampton into a false sense of security; clowns are like that. Hopefully, though, Boris the Clown Catcher won't be fooled.
