Official Press Release

The North Carolina Comicon is pleased to officially welcome world renowned artist Tommy Lee Edwards as the Senior Director and Partner in the NC Comicon. A Raleigh-Durham native, Edwards has been a driving creative force behind a vast array of multimedia projects from comics and video games to animation and motion pictures. He has illustrated and even co-created several internationally published comics and magazines. His designs have been an integral part of films from such industry giants as Lucasfilm, Disney, DreamWorks, and Warner Bros. Now he is officially adding NC Comicon to that staggering resume.

"Tommy has been involved with the convention and its planning since our first one-day show," said convention organizer and Ultimate Comics President Alan Gill, "Now we're moving to make the partnership official. Tommy has been an amazing friend to the convention and to me personally. I want this con to mirror what he has brought to it and what I believe makes his work so great."

"Working with Ultimate Comics to bring such a fun weekend to my community is a real joy," adds Edwards. "I believe that, as a seasoned comics, games, and film professional, I can bring a unique perspective to NC Comicon and help it thrive as an annual event that celebrates creative storytelling like no other."

Today's announcement is the beginning of a series of changes that reflect a commitment to bringing a larger, more diverse, and more artist-driven approach to the NC Comicon. Along with his years of experience, Edwards brings with him some notable friends from the world of comics and film. On Tommy's behalf, NC Comicon has recently announced some incredible additions to this year's guest lineup including Neal Adams, Geof Darrow, Adam Hughes, Phil Noto, Daniel Way, Ron Marz, Tony Harris, Josh Adams, Bob Keen, with many more to come.

Tommy is instrumental in planning the new NC Comicon Film Festival, in partnership with Durham's historic Carolina Theatre, which will bring convention goers a weekend of 35mm cinematic excellence all under the same price of admission. With Tommy's involvement and commitment to a creator-friendly and fan-driven experience, we feel confident in saying that this year's NC Comicon (Nov. 8, 9, 10) will be like nothing North Carolina has ever seen.
