Yukine was portrayed to be a typical tsundere character right from the get-go of the Noragami series. Many times, he crossed the line of being a tsundere and crossed over to being a selfish jerk. This left a bad taste in the mouths of many fans. However, with his redemption arc (his ablution), many fans started viewing him in a positive light, especially since he showed regret for his actions and grew as a character.

The anime didn’t do much justice to this complicated character, something that only manga fans would know. So here are ten facts about Yukine that his supporters would be excited to know!

10 His Various Names

In the anime, Yukine is called only be specific names, like Yukki (called by Kofuku) or Yukine by everyone else. However, the manga specifies more detail. As a human boy, Yukine’s name was Haru, and when Father (Fujisaki Kouto) got a hold of him, he renamed him Hagusa. As his vessel, Yukine’s name became Yuu.

9 His Past Life

One of the flashbacks the anime shows of Yukine’s is a clutter of sakē cups and an arm wrapped in bandages. It was hinted that Yukine was abused by his father, who was a mean drunk.

The manga shows even more flashbacks and one of them shows Yukine having one in the first person, where he is lying down and his father can be seen above him, appearing to close the lid of the trunk of a car or maybe even Yukine’s own coffin.

7 He’s Afraid Of Dark Rooms

The anime shows that Yukine has a phobia of dark rooms. This was played off as a character quirk by many, but those who read the manga know that this is because of the scenario played above (of his flashback with his father).

Yukine (Noragami)

Yukine’s feelings for his father transcended his human memories and were retained in his spirit form. This was one of the biggest reasons why he was a jerk to Yato from the very beginning – because his fatherly actions reminded him of his own father, even though he was unable to recollect those memories.

5 He Is A Surprisingly Powerful Shinki

In the anime, Yato is shown to have 2 Shinki before Yukine, with one of them being Nora. However, the mangaka explains that Yato had a total of 5 Shinki before Yukine. Of course, Yato has no ties with them whatsoever, but that doesn’t stop Yukine from being jealous of them, especially when it comes to Nora.
