Nope star Brandon Perea shared his desire to play a Marvel superhero in the future, specifically Sam Alexander's Nova.

Remezcla sat down with Perea to discuss his role in Jordan Peele's latest sci-fi/horror-comedy film. When asked about the next step in his career, the actor said he wanted to play a Marvel superhero. "Marvel Cinematic Universe – I need to be there," Perea said. "That's what I want in my career – 100 percent." The actor retweeted the publication's quote, asking others to "spread the word" that he's specifically interested in Sam Alexander's Nova.

In March 2022, Marvel Studios confirmed that it's adapting Nova into a Disney+ limited series that will be written by Moon Knight scribe Sabir Pirzada. The studio also mentioned the possibility of a future film. Ryan Gosling was rumored to play the part of Richard Rider, the original Nova, but those rumors were debunked. Sam Alexander's Nova is a much younger version of the hero, but there have been no public announcements about the character's addition to the upcoming MCU project.

The MCU's first Nova Corps appearance came in the 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy and was subsequently mentioned in the team's sequel in 2017. More recently, the Nova Corps was featured again in April 2022, when fans got their first look at Terry Crews as Centurion Tal Marik, Commander of the Starcharter and close advisor to Nova Prime, who can be see in the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind theme park ride.

In Nope, Perea plays Angel Torres who's hired by siblings OJ and Emerald Haywood (Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer) to capture video evidence of aliens. The actor claimed he had no idea what role he was originally auditioning for, but he knew Jordan Peele was the writer and director on the project. Perea expressed excitement over the audition, claiming he would have played any role as long as he could be in Peele's movie. He later explained that said seeing himself on the Nope billboard was an emotional moment for him, representing the years of hard work he's put into his acting career.

Before Nope, Perea was arguably best known for his role as Alfonso Sosa on Netflix's original series The OA which ran for two seasons and received favorable critical reviews. The actor has also featured as DC Comics villain Doctor Tyme in the live-action adaptation television series Doom Patrol. In his next film, The Faith of Long Beach, Perea will play a soft-spoken street fighter who wants to make his way into the world of professional boxing.

Nope releases in theaters July 22, 2022.
