For scary muppet fans the world over, today's official announcement of a sequel to The Dark Crystal will have made their year. But don't worry, everyone who can barely remember the original; the resumes of those making the movie should convince you that it'll be worth checking out, as well.

The 3D (of course!) Power Of The Dark Crystal is to be written by Baz Luhrmann collaborator Craig Pearce (who worked with Luhrmann on Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge), and directed by Paul and Michael Spierig, the minds behind Daybreakers. For the Dark Crystal purists, Brian Froud, who designed the creatures for the 1982 original, is also working on the movie, and the Spierigs are promising a movie that'll mix CGI and puppetry to create "a one hundred percent real world that is unique to The Dark Crystal." If nothing else, we're looking forward to something that'll be visually impressive...
