When Daredevil's civilian alter-ego Matt Murdock made a surprise cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, audiences erupted -- except at a screening attended by actor Charlie Cox.

Cox, who played Murdock/Daredevil in Netflix's Daredevil and The Defenders, recently described that particular audience's underwhelming response to his Marvel Cinematic Universe return, in an interview with Radio Times. "It's funny, I got so many text messages and so many calls about that moment in the cinema. My nephew sent me a recording of everyone cheering," recalled Cox. "So I snuck into a movie theater near where I live and literally stood in the corridor... and, sadly, my experience was it was dead f**king quiet!"

The English actor went on to explain that his wife also accompanied him to the No Way Home screening hoping to capture the experience of MCU fans going wild over his cameo, only for nothing to happen. "I was so disappointed – my wife was with me and she was recording me, because it'd be fun to have that moment of everyone cheering, and then... tumbleweed!" joked Cox.

Cox has previously spoken about the secrecy surrounding his Spider-Man: No Way Home cameo, which he had to keep under wraps for more than 12 months. "I got the call mid-way through lockdown, summer of 2020, and I filmed [No Way Home] in March or something of '21," said Cox. "So I had to keep it a secret for almost a year -- and then, of course, I didn't come out [until December], so over a year. So, yeah, it's been intense."

Cox's cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home last December arrived roughly at the same time that his Daredevil co-star Vincent D'Onofrio reprised the role of Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in the Disney+ series Hawkeye. These appearances cemented the place of both Daredevil and Kingpin in the MCU, although the canonical status of the Netflix series itself -- along with Marvel's other Netflix shows, The Defenders, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and The Punisher -- remains up in the air.

Daredevil's future role in the MCU also remains uncertain, although Cox confirmed that he'd like to go up against D'Onofrio's Kingpin again. "Look, I don't have any idea what anyone's plans are at this stage, but I presume there's more for us to do," said Cox. "... I am imagining, I am hoping, that our worlds will collide again because the stuff we've done in the past was tremendous fun to do, and he's such an incredible actor."
